Ouch - I guess you can see it in the rendering. The glass on Bosa's Pier West looks much better in comparison.
You can also see where the "fungi" balconies will be attached in the pic above.

Given the huge cost premium of curved glass, I wonder if the approach is similar to the Lululemon office / Pattison car showroom on Burrard, where there's a mix of faceted curves using flat panels, and curved glass on other parts of the building. Until the balcony glazing and the podium screen go up, we may not know.

It doesn't look like where the curved glass is installed on Burrard Place where the slab is curved.
It looks like where the flat panels are installed on the right with flat edges in the slab.

It looks as if Officedweller has discovered why that is the case - as GenWhy noted earlier, the faceted curves are what the more recent renders showed.

Curved glass in like 95% of renders I'd never believe it. The cost is bonkers. I was very surprised, for instance, when the Davie rentals got curved balcony railing glass... because it's a dumb waste of money. Then again, if I was on the design side... I'd say keep 'em and getting rid of them would be dumb lol.

I wonder if Quadreal being a 50% partner is resulting in some value engineering/cost cutting that we don't normally see on typical Westbank projects.

The dumb thing is that the design aspects (all of the curves) are completely ruined by the choice of/change to flat panes.
If they knew they were going to use flat panes from the outset (I guess not), they should have used a design that worked well with flat panes (that did not have curves).

Yeah the whole undulating "veil" concept over the entire massive podium is going to look ridiculous with flat panes.

Back in 2018

However, they feared that the building could suffer from value engineering during the construction process. Showing pride in their work, the applicants fought back against this presumption. Though they admitted that, with the high costs of curved glass, that appearance will likely be created using triangular windows instead.

When the panel questioned if they could set a recommendation to require curved glassed, city staff agreed they could, but as the panel acts in an advisory role, city staff would be free to ignore it. Acknowledging the prohibitively high costs that would come with that instruction, the panel instead recommended the applicant keep the intention of the curves, but would not require the use of curved glass specifically.

For the glass wrapping over the tops of the towers, I guess we can expect a similar faceted effect
as with the red panels at Mariner 2 near Cooper's Park:

So disappointing and I was also one to think that Westbank would not skimp on exterior design for such a prominent project. Normally building exteriors are the best thing about their projects, whereas interiors are ridden with quality issues and bad layouts, making for unlivable spaces.

I guess we are getting another Telus Garden after such great Vancouver House and Kengo on Alberni.

Was also hoping for Vancouver House level exterior work.

You would think they would at least not cheap out on the showpiece towers fronting Cambie and 41st.
