I'm sorry, but I fully disagree with this.
We have seen in the past few years at least several dozen single family houses and low density buildings with a three block radius of this site get demolished to make way for more dense projects.
Based on:
The zoning in the area
The many decisions of the Planning Commission
The actions of developers
It actually looks like the City and developers intend to fully rewrite the context scale in the area to be 4-7 floor buildings as opposed to single floor commercial and single family housing. Ignoring the low density context for a whole new higher density context is literally the current context of the neighborhood - and it will be better for the City in the long run for doing so.
The Kilby Court defense sounds very NIMBY, especially because there was no outcry to the fifteen or so other projects that did similar changes to the context in the same area.
Not to mention the Pickle and Hide project is literally next door and borders houses on Kilby Court and it's similar in height and size to 800 S; and yet that project was near universally praised.
I typically agree with you Orlando, but on this I think we see things a little differently.
