The slope of the curve in recent years does appear to be steeper than it was in the earlier years, so it looks like something more than linear. But we're talking about progress based on political will, so all bets are off the table IMHO.

Slope? Say no more!

(Graph by me)

Though in all seriousness, I think a better metric probably exists to capture the "growth" of a public transit system. Maybe something like # of stations under construction.

Getting funding is also part of what I meant. So, the next project they want to do should have funding already secured so that tenders and planning can be done so that shovels in the ground for the most preliminary work begins when this extension opens. Toronto seems to do that within Metrolinx.

You can clearly see the progression of the elevated track columns on the right side of the photo.

Can't wait for the guideway to start going in! I'm assuming we won't be seeing the gantry crane for this short segment?

No, not for this small segment. It will be elevated highway-style construction with off-site fabricated concrete beams being mated to cast-in-place columns.

They're all setup for the first TBM to arrive next week

Quote:
This umbrella is a system of steel pipes drilled above where the TBM will break through. They redistribute the weight of the ground above the tunnel to either side of its entrance.

The coms folks at the breakthrough asked us all to wait, so they could be the first to report on it.

There was a couple spots on surface you could see the TBM, so they had to be fast.

The "next week" photo was from last week so it was accurate to their credit.

Yes that is true, I was resigning myself to a multi-day wait after reading that today. And surprise, it'd already happened last night.

Seems they are ready to publicize now, maybe just needed some time to find the right accompanying music:
