Really digging the aesthetic of the 2 towers on the left, a few more buildings like those would make for a very cool skyline, especially against the dry mountain backdrop.

I like Scotia Square. But I agree, they need to lean into their midcentury aesthetic rather than try to downplay it.

I don't think that's true at all. SS is most visible from angles similar to the one below and after the redevelopment is fully complete there will be several 10+ story buildings in the foreground which won't totally hide Scotia but will certainly obscure them. Even in the image q12 posted they'll be partly hidden.

The view from the south has lots of other highrises downtown which partly block them and the view head on from the harbour is of the narrow side which doesn't show much of them anyway.

I guess the difference is that I'd still consider "only the narrow side being highly visible" to be "highly visible", and I think that making those surfaces more interesting would take them from being a worse-than-average feature of the skyline to potentially a better-than-average one.

Edit: from angles like this one, for example, the towers will always be (IMO) highly visible.

I guess for me, I wouldn't actually consider the narrow side to be "worst than average". Yes the narrow side lacks windows which is a downside, but that angle also makes them look more tall and thin, which is a upside. So those two aspects plus their visual foot print being smaller sort of cancel out to just being average. But I suppose that's kind of subjective.

Because it's a season. Nobody owns it. That we all experience it in our own unique ways is an obvious given. Nobody actually needs affirmation of that. Solipsism used to be a bad word.

That's so interesting. It never so much as crossed my mind that there was anything different or objectionable about the statement. My eye reads "Enjoy your summer" and "Enjoy the summer" or just "Enjoy summer" as being completely interchangeable without assigning any special meaning or distinction to any of them.

The problem with getting older is that you notice these little things because you've seen the changes happen first hand. That makes the changes you don't like particularly annoying.

Funny, back in the 80s curmudgeons used to whine about "how are you?" and "have a nice day!" because they found the pretend concern grating. Now I'm an older guy, and I'm sick of so pointedly being ordered around all the time.

"Enjoy your rest of your day!" And on news/opinion sites: "Here's what to think about ____." "What you need to know about _____." Don't let the _____ change the way you understand ______."

It's not my day or summer, and I won't enjoy or learn about it at the behest of some anonymous news aggregator or social media algorithm.

Oh well, rant over. Back to browsing Kijiji for used guitars. I have to admit, I do find it handy that ads for online music stores pop up all over the web for me these days. All these commercial offerings associated with my personal interests make me feel less alone in the world.

I don't mind the look of the towers. Well, the hotel isn't pretty (in part to the improvements )or the podium parking garage. My concerns are layout and interface. Improvement have been made. New towers are proposed or underway. It's just a bit like when they cram new structures around an existing tower in the park in Toronto. (Parkway Forest) As much as I abhor demolition, (although it does excite me) I just don't see a solution to redeeming the northern half of the block.
