businesses come and go. And that is the way it is. And then wish them well
But she seemed to show a bit of attitude in that post.

I don't think she had malice in her intent, but it is a very real reminder that Edmonton often digs its own hole.

I don't know where this woman said anything bad about Edmonton other than not missing the Edmonton cold winter climate because she will be in Kelowna as they are opening an office there. I am not sure why you say "Edmonton often digs its own hole" and what that had to do with her post or anything for that matter. There is nothing Edmontonians can do about winter except live life to the fullest.

I think he means that Edmontonians don't always make the best ambassadors. In all my travels, I've never met citizens so quick to run down their own city. I've never understood it.

Does Edmonton have its share of issues? Sure. Name me a city that doesn't. But it also has so much to offer in the way of urban greenspace, culture, cuisine, education, recreational amenities and overall quality of life. How can a city expect to attract "the best" when its own citizens treat it like a punchline?

maybe we pay more attention to our failures because that’s what’s most familiar to us?

we lost the fifa bid. instead of just sharing that publicly, why not share all of the good things that we’re in the bid book.

we didn’t make the shortlist for google’s second headquarters which was much publicized. why not share all of the good things that were in that tender (minus any confidential financial details)?

if we did things like that all the time, it would be a lot easier for edmontonians to be good individual and corporate ambassadors and salespeople.

This speaks to me. Edmontonians are almost conditioned to apologize for being...well, Edmontonians.

I can't imagine a Calgarian — not for one second — accepting a job somewhere else and running down their former city on the way out. It just doesn't happen.

Edmontonians have a lot to be proud of. It's time to start acting like it!

Agreed. Given her line of business I am not sure 'Kelowna' is the mecca of the fashion industry - maybe if she was jetting off to New York, Paris, Milan or even Toronto.

Aaaaanyways.

I encourage everyone (if you have not already) to walk Ada Blvd from 50 st to 66 st, then the block North (111 av). Beautiful homes that overlook the valley and our green space. Finish the walk off with a stop at the bookstore on 112 av and 65 st or any business on that strip. Beautiful part of our city and great local businesses. We need to promote the beauty of our city and this is a great place to start.

sorry, I'm again failing to see what coldrsx latest complaint is with the skyline photo. Is it because you dont see the latest tower built? Big 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 deal man. Why does this always get your 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 in a knot? Outside of this forum, I doubt anyone noticed, and further cares.

The photo is to show the Folk Fest and its great location and proximity to the core.

Another recent post from ExEd with the AGA under construction and no Epcor Tower. It might seem insignificant to those not in the marketing/comms industry, but up to date collaterals are important, basic elements for any comms plan and confusing for an organization like this to be using stuff that does not showcase our city to the best of its ability. These should be updated every couple of years; there is no excuse for the use of these. But hey, Edmonton.

That is terrible. Would you buy a house from a realtor that is using 10 year old photos of the house?

Here comes the sun! Edmonton building largest rooftop solar array in Canada
August 18, 2022

The Edmonton Expo Centre will soon be home to the largest rooftop solar array in the country.

Phase 1 of the $5.03 million project will see 5,754 solar panels installed across 193,735.5 square feet above Halls D through H.

“The City of Edmonton is committed to becoming an energy sustainable and climate resilient city,” said program manager Brad Watson. “This rooftop solar panel array will generate at least 2.8 gigawatts of energy annually, equal to that of about 375 homes.”

Based on the design energy models the array is anticipated to yield operational savings in the realm of $290,000 to $460,000 per year.

“Our new rooftop solar installation means that we will be producing our own renewable, clean solar energy right here on top of our building,” said Melissa Radu, Director, Social & Environmental Sustainability with Explore Edmonton. “It also acts as a reminder, to Edmontonians and visitors to our city, that Edmonton is a leader for innovative energy technologies in our country and that we are working hard to support a transition to a lower-carbon economy.”

While other buildings around the City of Edmonton have solar arrays or are having arrays built, the Edmonton EXPO Centre presented a unique opportunity to create one of this size.

“The Edmonton EXPO Centre is a unicorn of sorts when it comes to rooftop solar panels,” said Watson. “Its size and dimensions, unobstructed sightlines and lack of interfering rooftop infrastructure allowed us to build an array of this size.”

The solar system is expected to have a lifespan of at least 25 years and will yield a payback between 10-17 years, considering energy prices and whether energy consumption aligns with generation.

If approved, Phase 2 will see additional panels installed across Halls A through C, increasing the footprint of this project as well as significant cost savings. Phase 2 will add a production of approximately 1.9 gigawatts to the system and the estimated cost is roughly $3.4 million. Phase 2 would add an additional saving of about $185,000 to $300,000 per year.

Phase 1 is expected to be complete in November.

This project is one of 11 solar projects currently underway in Edmonton, helping the City achieve its goal of increasing energy efficiencies. There are currently six City solar arrays in operation.

This solar installation is part of a $98 million rehabilitation project at the Edmonton EXPO Centre. On top of the solar project, visitors will see improvements to seating in Hall D and updates to Entrance 6 on the north side of the building. Improvements are also being made to the building envelope, and mechanical and electrical systems, including major equipment replacements in the mechanical and electrical rooms. The Edmonton EXPO Centre will remain open during work.

Curious to see the results/impact of the AB Gov't's innovative campaign to lure folks from Toronto and Vancouver to Alberta.

Probably no results. The ROC sees Alberta as a place with misplaced victim mentality (whiners), exemplified by some of the UCP leadership candidates. If times are so tough here it must not be good place to live if potential premiers are musing about sovereignty.

Few will pick up stakes and leave TO/Van to come to Alberta.

On the other hand, it is an attractive place for newly arrived immigrants
