UBC to Honolulu is 4,352 km according to google maps. Skytrain top speed is 80 km/h. Only 54.4 hours from UBC to Honolulu!

At that point we would need washrooms on the cars. If we want to complete that biological cycle we would need a cappuccino bar on each train. Not certain they have sufficient room.

There may be a few other more minor engineering challenges.

We'd be using a Hyperloop if this ever came to pass in like, 2200. Top speed of 1280 km/h and we'd be there in 3.5 hours.

Same reason TransLink doesn't buy and redevelop properties themselves: they're only a transportation agency.

If we're going to have massive disruption and compensation anyway, I suggest we do a cut n' cover for UBC and save ourselves a billion.

If cut and cover is causing such disruption at the station locations it would be disastrous along the whole route. This isn't Cambie with a small commercial stretch, Broadway is pretty much commercial along the whole route!

Central Broadway is commercial along the whole route. West Broadway stops being commercial west of Alma and east of Macdonald.
