Very nearly froze again overnight. Got down to 0.8C in my backyard. That’s just… distracting.

EDIT: Braved a walk to the grocery It was fine. Visibly very foggy in the East End.

14C and overcast in Moncton at 9 AM, going up to 22C this afternoon.

We had considerable rain last evening. Round two is tonight, with more heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms.

Cloudy, some sunny breaks, and 9 at 10:30am. Coastal winds will keep temps cool again today. Fog is rolling through downtown, where it's a bit cooler this morning.

That’s not a bad number. I know that down here, Point Pelee National Park is one of the top birding spots in North America, with over 390 species being recorded. The long peninsula that juts out deep into the lake really funnels birds onto its shores, making it the birding hot spot that it is.

Again this month it's been unseasonable cool in the interior, such a contrast from last year.
But viewing this page is a reminder and gives some kind of solace it could be worse.

I had to check to make sure but sure enough, second week into June and your city weather station went down to 0.1C yesterday and the day before got up to only 5.1C. which is just crazy to me.

The fact you grin and bear it, or unbare it and cover up, is a testimony to how hardy Newfoundlander are. I applaud your resilience.

0.1 in June is not unheard of in Canada. The record June low in Kelowna is -1.1. In Maple Creek it's -3.3. Not trying to say that any particular place is bad, but I think "we would never get that kind of weather here" is sometimes overplayed in this thread.

Here in Vancouver we're apparently headed to 15 or so today and we're still stuck in a pattern of dreary cloud and rain most days.

Wind direction is king this time of year. The ocean is still cool so this is basically all you need to know. When the winds are calm, the seabreeze usually sets up from the northeast, completely tanking temperatures. If you're in the blue circle you're more likely to be impacted more by coastal winds, red circle less so.

This becomes a lot less of a problem August into the fall as the ocean temperatures warm up enough that their impact on land is less. I imagine it's the same elsewhere, though not as extreme as here since we have that pesky Labrador Current sitting right off the northeast coast. Even a few hours away where I grew up on the south coast, the Labrador Current is an after thought, it has little to no impact on weather at all.

The middays have been tolerable. Spent most of yesterday on the back deck in tank top and shorts. Back out now in the same sunbathing. Certainly couldn’t walk around town like this, though Currently 15C with strong sun so that’s just enough for me to be comfortable back here.

I figured that area would be a hotspot. Not a city per se but a region with a large variety of birds.

A blizzard closed the Dempster Highway yesterday. and south Yellowknife was 25C. in the Yukon a few 100 kms away flooding is happening.

The North Sask river here is a bit cloudy today. The river left has risen dramatically over night to now be at the Bottom end of normal flow for this time. Its been a meter below normal all spring. We are starting to see melt finally happen in the mountains but there are still reports of late season avalanche conditions in some areas.

We are at 12 active wildfires currently in Alberta. All contained and or under control.

Looks like a nice weekend here, 22-24 till Tue.

I mowed the lawn properly today, even weedwhacked the fence line AND replaced a missing fence slat or whatever they’re called myself. I’m basically a contractor now.







Strong sun all day. Tank top and shorts. Bit of a burn I better not wake up to near-freezing tomorrow again.

Difference being of course is that Kelowna's -1.1C is a record low for the city in the last hundred years or something and the average person hasn't felt that temperature in the city in June.

The average low temperature for StJohns is less than 4C beginning of June, a fluctuation of 3C cooler than normal gets you to freezing.
Halifax average high temperature for this day in June isn't even 20C yet either, speaking of seasonal lag.

It's the flipside of winter in June with YHZ having warmer days than the city. At the Halifax Dockyard station the high is only 18 or so (low around 11) while apparently it's 20.5 in June at the airport for the 2020 period. At the Sandy Cove station right on the Atlantic by Sambro the June high is only 16.

It's the same in St. John's where the measurement will depend a lot on where you are as SHH and Marty point out. Although since it's on a smaller peninsula you can never get as far inland as YHZ and be near the developed area (not that YHZ is really near the developed areas either).

For June in Halifax the weather is normally quite nice regardless. It's the early spring people grumble about.

It seems every conversation about the weather concludes with the statement, "but it's good for the forest fires".
We are getting another atmospheric river, common in January, not common in June.
In spite of that there may also be some sunny / dry breaks in the forecast for the weekend.
