Great problem to have tho lol.

It’s a lovely morning. Everything is covered with condensation so maybe there was frost earlier?

Edit: So far, so good. The Monstera is still alive haha.

Usually in Windsor the grass greens up in late March, and some trees and shrubs start to leaf out in early April, even late March some years, with most trees leafing out by early May. This year was about two weeks later than normal for the trees to leaf out, but the grass greening was on schedule.

7C and sunny in Moncton at 10 AM, going up to 15C later today. We now have four straight days at the end of the seven day forecast period with +20C temperatures in the city. Spring is definitely here!

Time to think about opening up the pool again.

The joys of living downtown in such a car-dependent city (no sarcasm, oddly). Less than two minutes from well out on the highway to my neighbourhood haha. I can have my car-free life downtown but can still easily get out to my parents lol Driving home from Sunday brunch:

You know? I've never really paid much attention to exact dates, and whether these dates change from year to year, but I can give you rough observations from this year.

Deciduous trees: I've noticed small buds forming for a few weeks on various trees, but this week is the first I've seen signs of green, new leaves starting to emerge from the buds. In my yard this morning:
- Maple... a few of the small red blossoms have appeared, and leaf buds showing green but still in 'bud form', not looking like an actual leaf yet.
- Birch... green leaves just emerging from buds but not recognizable as leaves yet.
- Apple... small leaves forming, recognizable as leaves but very small.

I've noticed the grass turning green for a few weeks now, but I find it is dependent on the local conditions - mostly sun exposure. My yard is mostly shaded by trees, so my small patch of grass is very short, maybe a few centimetres. However, in some areas that get more direct sun it is maybe about 10 cm? Not enough to bother mowing yet, for me, however I think some people in the area have already mowed. That said, I'm not a person who is overly enthused about lawn mowing, so I might wait a little longer than some.

On the other hand I give my flower gardens a lot of care, but will wait a few more weeks before transplanting annuals because there is still a risk of frost up to the end of May (forecast low for Halifax tonight is -3C). There are others on this forum who are more knowledgeable as to plant care and characteristics, so I'll leave it up to them to comment further.

Yes, I have been using the Windy app for a long time. Very beautiful and interesting. It is a pity, however, that that map does not exist

What if there was a map like this for Canada too? Maybe we don't know where to look for it.

I think that maybe at St John's there is no summer but that your summer is a spring.

Grass is more reasonable. I’ve mowed twice already. It didn’t even turn brown until a snowless cold snap well into winter. Typically the untended wild grass areas stay brown for ages, but anywhere it’s mowed is usually green in April.

Low of 3C this morning. Still very cold mornings.

The warmspot was Gillam, MB at 23.4C.

Some juicy highs are starting to appear. Let's see how warm it gets.

I’m envious of this forecast. We’ve struggled to maintain anything above 20c so for and continually have been below normal. Even our extended forecast to the end of May is unseasonably cooler.

We have had multiple forest fires already though, so hopefully our cool Weather trend will finally allow us to enjoy a smoke free summer….

On the west coast of BC there are no areas, perhaps geographically very limited, where it rains abundantly even in all the summer months?

Incredible! I didn't think grass would start growing as early as late March in the continental heartland of southern Canada. But perhaps the presence of the Great Lakes helps.

Our cherry and crabapple trees blossom around mid June. Compare that to the west coast for the most depressing effect.

---------

Sunny and 7 degrees at just before noon. High of 10 expected, though with light winds we could find ourselves in another seabreeze situation where the city is a bit cooler than expected and inland ends up being a bit warmer.

Hi OldDartmouthMark, I've always liked your messages. You are always very precise and detailed. It is clear that you are a good observer and love nature! So comparing north 42's message and yours it seems that grass and leaves grow later in Nova Scotia than in southern Ontario.

Looking at the photos you published I noticed that in summer the green of the Newfoundland grass is a really intense green. Impressive!

Most of the trees in my backyard are cherry trees. They kinda have bulbs now lol Please don't be too mean, Japan/BC people.

But I'm keeping myself smiling by buying metal spacers for the clothesline lol Just like both Nans had/have lol.

Tancredi, RE the bright green - I edit my pics. Auto correct and then up the temp to remove the blue cast that's always on the iPhone pics but never in real life except at a distance. It changes the colour a bit - not so much the green, but the chartreuse, yellow-green of the moss underneath, makes it stronger. It doesn't happen on the really professionally-kept lawns, but most around here - like mine above - are like 50% moss with some grass mixed in

Like here, bottom row, middle isn’t edited at all, right is. It just makes it more yellow, stupid moss. But I want to edit or the deck looks blue-grey and it’s actually a really warm tan, and everything else just has a blue cast that’s not how it looks in person.
