Hasn't that always been the idea? People years ago heard "Austin's Second Downtown" as a vision for the future in the entire Domain area, and rolled their eyes thinking that the small Simon outdoor mall at the time was the extent of it.

I've always thought that it was referring to the entire North Burnet Gateway area, which many just refer to as the Domain, when it was fully built out would be Austin's "Second Downtown", which is really just a long winded, awkward way of saying Uptown.

All of the towers at the Domain, Broadmoor, around Q2, and others over the coming years will go a long ways towards solidifying this as a legit Uptown district, or whatever someone wants to call it.

I can not find info on the two buildings going up on the north side of Hwy 183 on either side of Burnet Rd. One is on Waterford Centre Dr. on Hwy 183 and the other is near Metric Blvd.. Both have parking structures of about 15 floors completed.

Any info on these two buildings?

After some feedback on Twitter and a little research, those renderings were from a design competition and not the winning proposal. The winner was from Gensler, and the project consists of a 5-story office building and a 322', 24-story residential tower. Here's an elevation:

The Gensler designed 322' residential tower is part of a project called Brockton GT. here's the site and the site plan:

The elevation again:

Ugh....of course the more attractive proposal didn't win. It's the Austin way

But in all fairness this could be an attractive tower. I just loved the texture of those handsome twins.

IMO the residential part of the winning proposal looks a lot more interesting than the twin proposal - curves, terraces, and overhangs. Very organic. A bit disappointing that the office is only 5 stories but otherwise the elevations above would easily make for the best building in north Austin.

RESEARCH BLVD & WATERFORD CENTRE BLVD

The property at Research Blvd & Waterford Centre Blvd is being developed as the Presidium Waterford. I was told that they are going to develop in phases. Gold’s gym will be torn down for this development to make way for these apartments. Here is the website for the development:

Presidium Waterford (https://www.presidiumwaterford.com/)

Here is a link to the city of Austin for related permit information:

METRIC BLVD & RESEARCH BLVD

I found this at the city of Austin website regarding rezoning of 8965 where Goodwill used to be on the corner of Metric and Research Blvd. The rezoning documents mentioned it would be 200 or more multifamily units. I don’t know the project name, but this could be a starting point for future research. Maybe someone on this forum knows more about this project.

Link below to city of Austin for request to rezone information:

Cheers

The project at Metric/Research is/was going under the project name of "Fairfield at Goodwill" and looks like it will have about 390 residential units. On the Fairfield Residential website, looks like they are calling the project the "Luca Apartments" (https://www.fairfieldresidential.com/new-developments/).

This article from Community Impact mentions both of the projects in question: https://communityimpact.com/austin/n...-from-2022-25/

I have also started a Google Map with some of the projects I know of around my hood (North Shoal Creek), but it really spans up and down Burnet from Allandale/Crestview up to the Domain. In no way is this a comprehensive list, but I wanted to make something so I could try to keep track of the developments and get a rough idea of how many units these will bring to the market. Hope some of you fellow development and map nerds enjoy!

If I'm not mistaken, the tower element is actually office and the 5 story element is multifamily (based on the elevation notes and balconies on the 5 story portion). The Runa proposal wasn't selected because it didn't include a multifamily element, something that was desired by the client but not expressly noted during the competition process.

Yeah, the taller one is office and five-story one is apartments.

I worked in Bldg 060, the one just north of 045. I used that covered walkway hundreds of times to access the lab in 045. 060 was a panel manufacturing and plating plant. I worked there and the panel assembly plant from 1983 to 2000.
Yeah...good money and good times... top of the world.

Nice! We might have crossed paths a time or two! I remember that covered walkway... I didn't use it much though because I worked primarily in the far right corner building close to Burnet (can't remember the bldg#), near what is now called Domain Dr. & Alterra Pkwy. It housed pre-sales, front end (SOCRATES) and Level 1 tech support. I think Level 2 was across that walkway?

At one point I had a roommate that worked in the manufacturing plant on the far left side of the complex. Until it was shutdown and outsourced -- just like tech support of course...

Elevations were added to the Domain Central Tower I site plan. It won't be the first 400 footer outside of downtown. It's 396'.
