I'd wager that this site will be the same five years later as it was on subway opening-day. Also too bad the one storey building in the picture wasn't included as well for the subway construction, lost opportunity for more den$ity!

Some Feb 4 updates at the project website:
https://www.broadwaysubway.ca/construction/current-work/

Emily Carr:
"• February: Continuing bulk excavation; completing water line relocation along Earl Finning Way; completing the relocation of utilities on Carolina Street and E. 1st Ave; beginning the installation of the elevated guideway columns; and conducting geotechnical surveys.
• March - April: Continuing the construction of the elevated guideway columns; commencing station concrete work; and managing the arrival and assembly of the first tunnel boring machine"

Main Street:
"• February: Completing the south side excavation of the road surface; increasing traffic from three to four lanes onto the completed traffic deck; and beginning excavation under traffic deck for the underground station."

Cambie/Granville/Arbtutus
decks: got a while longer on these ones

and some other stuff

Nice series - much easier to see the weekly changes when they're next to each other.
Thanks!

because it is only 700m of guideway, does anyone know if it will be like the Canada/Millennium Line where they used that flying crane thing that assemble multiple sections, or will it be more like the Expo-Line where they used long 1 section between columns.

i would assume the latter.

More precisely it will be just like the elevated section of the evergreen extension just East of the tunnel in Port Moody.

First column being placed behind the Tim Horton's 889 Great Northern Way.

Seems taller than I expected but it probably hasn't been placed to it's installed height yet in these photos.

Busy at Emily Carr station. Also they have gone full "No-Lookee-Loo" with a new plywood fence running the length of the site facing Great Northern Way except for a small number of plexiglass viewing windows. This makes for some reflections, etc in some of the pictures.

I've had problems with TransLink and photography for over a decade. They get really uptight with people standing around snapping photos and every time I called media relations to actually do this properly I was told either I couldn't get permission to film or photograph because they had a moratorium regarding media information while construction was ongoing (and its been perpetual for at least a decade now) or because I did not associate with any recognized media outlets my applications were rejected.

I think blocking off the view and putting in tiny windows is par for the course.
