Yet another person high on cannabis because you are legendarily delusional, do you not read the downward trend of retailers as outlined by SpongeG ?

Aritzia brand Wilfred was going to take the corner space across from H&M but they pulled out and it sits empty.

Louis Castel a Korean golf brand with stores in Toronto, was going to open next to Suit Supply but they pulled out.

JAC, womens clothing has signs saying it will open in 2021, but still nothing.

Suit Supply, changed their sign from Spring 2021 to opening 2022, but no action going on from what one can see peeking in.

White Spot was opening a Nat's Brewhouse but it has now changed to a R&D by White Spot, can't tell if it's being constructed or not, it will be a restaurant inside the food court.

Tesla was going to open in the old Sears space temporarily until that space gets redeveloped in a future phase.

WeWork was going to open in Tower 3 but nothing yet.

Bella Gelato seems to never get going despite it saying it would open in 2021.

Cactus Club pulled out, luckily Tap & Barrel took the space but won't open until 2023.

LA TAQUERIA is set to open in 2022, was supposed to be 2021.

Nothing has happened inside the old mall but stores closing up and getting boarded up. Perhaps they don't want to lease any of the spaces? as there is a planned reno of the old mall in a future phase.

I did notice on Instagram today that there was a sneak peek type of event for phase two and looks like the sale center has reopened. From the renders doesn't look like much retail be added.
very interesting to know, thanks. i dont know this project/area all that well but it is interesting to see what was to be vs what is to be. of course things could change again. but it is interesting.

The commercial leasing site still has these plans for the renovated mall - which I think are in Phase 2.

In addition to SpongeG list, Jinya Japanese noodle is suppose to open 2021. Now we are into 2022, yet not one nail was hammered in place. Strangely Jinya is in a prime location right up Alpha Way, even with an adjacent parking lot , highly accessible by foot and by vehicle. Whereas Kokoro noodle already open in Madison Center several months already. Back when the food court opened in summer 2021, I read somewhere (think is Burnaby Now) that all food venues will be all open by end of September and I was super excited. Now the food court is still more smoke than fire.

Looks like they are franchises, so could be a problem with the franchisee.

Kokoro also a franchise restaurant and they opens up in a timely manner. I suspect Jinya is more than just franchise issue. Jinya seems to do really well in the States with 40+ locations. May be Jinya wants to pull out.
Btw Hai Dai Lau closes 300+ restaurants in China, may be they are also rethinking the Brentwood location. Again not a beep heard from that spot which is super prime location, rent must be horrendous.

I was thinking that the proposed franchisee may have run into financial trouble due to the pandemic, and backed out, so Jinya would have to find a new franchisee, which may be difficult with a reduced number of people dining during the pandemic.
The Jinya downtown on Robson is always packed.

Is there steady traffic through the restaurants at Brentwood these days?
If not, maybe the franchisee backed out due to word from other restaurant operators who have opened up at TAB.

There are only two dine in type restaurant in TAB. They are mostly food court type cafe which one just walk in not having to show vaccine passport. The two I am thinking are OeB and Gram Japanese specialty pancake place which recently opens, it is quite small and does required proof of vaccine.

Covid has messed so many things up, including the retail and restaurant landscape. I don't think we can call TAB a failure or mismanaged just yet, they need time to mature and work on tenants. I think compared to a lot of failing retail across the country, TAB is and wil be doing just fine

Indeed Covid has negatively impacted the whole retail and restaurant business globally. TAB is not a failure or being mismanaged, but CondoInvestor's view "Shape is in business of investing billions....not some lame grocery store selling
fresh produce" is not only misguided but dangerously narrow minded. People who are attraction by sky train proximity are not exactly millionaires. They are ordinary folks who works for a living. They do not invest in TAB because of LV, Prada or even Tesla. In the not so distant past, Target expanded into Canada after extensive market research on its viability. After close to 2 years of building stores, it finally opened up. But survived barely one year and had to pull out completely causing billions dollars loss. What I am trying to say is developers need to adjust to present market, not market in the past or market in the future. It was a high calling when TAB started, but failure to adjust to present day reality and the needs of potential buyers is dangerously narrow minded.

Yea, even if all the empty spots had been filled up in the expansion there would still only be a dozen or so new stores in it, phase two is only bringing in a few more retail spots, give it 12 years and it should be a more interesting place to shop but that's so far away lol. It will in about 2023 a decent place for food at least.

Walked around Brentwood area and the Amazing Brentwood mall last week in the evening. I could feel its potential to grab a lot more businesses not only to the mall, but also the surrounding areas in the near future, especially when everything is back to normal after the Covid scare. There is a kind of new-generation energy at Brentwood that one just can't see in Vancouver, even for most parts of downtown. I have the same kind of feeling whenever I visit Lonsdale Quay as well.

yes, it's got great potential. Will be interesting to see the plans for across the street. Would they add lots more retail? or a small amount. I know I rag on it in its current near-empty state but it does have a good feel.

Yes definitely looking forward to even better retail format across the street, along with mixed use office, hotel.and condo buildings. Some kind of cultural or museum space over there, like the New West museum space at the Anvil Centre, would be great .

I will say the central plaza with the fountain and tree is feeling real nice. Bit more buzz, some more open restaurants, more folks strolling about. Its a great common amenity space, and the open air concept works real well, particularly with how high end and luxurious the general buildout feels.

This definitely has potential to mature into something great post Covid.

I also like the Solo public plaza area. I am glad to see there will be more F&B spots after the third building's retail units are opened. A short stroll across Lougheed Highway, a few new restaurants have opened up, such as Tendon Kohaku at Madison Mall. This neighbourhood looks bright indeed, especially considering that it was a mere industrial area mostly filled with car-selling parking lots about 1 to 2 decades ago.

The mystery of White Spot's presence in the food court has been revealed - not Triple O's, not Nat's Kitchen, but R+D Kitchen (by White Spot), scheduled to open in 'early May': https://www.globenewswire.com/news-relea...HIS-SPRING-AT-THE-AMAZING-BRENTWOOD.html

edit: oops, missed SpongeG's earlier post including the new naming/rebranding/etc..

Was looking forward to something new with Nat's Kitchen.. but this is just going to be a White Spot serving a few additional menu items.. lame.
