I never said I like to see a grocery store in Tower 5 , in fact it is pretty pathetic to have to wait another 5 years when Tower 5 is complete to have a grocery store in site. I meant they can make an announcement about an on site grocery store when they start selling Tower5. I talked to many owners and renters in the towers , they all like to see a grocery store on site. Btw the original plan was to have some kind of community center in Tower 6, is it still in the drawing board?

That seems to have disappeared - not sure why (whether it is gone from Amazing Brentwood or relocated within Amazing Brentwood).

From a City of Burnaby report this summer about the new Willingdon community center (in an existing park) also said

Quote:
City staff are also exploring the feasibility of a community benefit project that includes a community centre in a mixed-use development in the Brentwood Town Centre.

Suit Supply still shows no sign of construction happening, have they pulled out or just going to delay again?

The BC Cannabis space is now being started.

I'm kind of surprised this is going through considering the hysteria it caused - but it went through 3 readings and was approved in early Dec. Maybe they learned from the cancelled Edmonds location not to give in to moral panics? It'll likely be awhile until this is open though as it's not listed as 'coming soon' on the BC Cannabis site.

FYI the new Edmonds location has gone through 2 readings and is likely to pass as there hasn't been opposition to it. I think it might be far enough away from residential that no one really cares.

This is beyond crazily ridiculous, 5 coffee shops and now a weed shop. Yet residents all wanting just a small grocery store and nothing been done about it. Lots of residence will still be pushing their nanny car over to Whole food and SOF for a long long time.

TAB location is too prime for grocery stores, they're better off locating these at other nearby mixed use projects.

For phase 2 being tower 5 and the old part of the mall. Are there any marketing/concept pics of what the renovated mall will look like? Also are there any confirmed plans for the 3 levels of tower 3? It's so dark at night

No pics of the renovated mall.
The plans suggest the tent roof is gone though.

The podium of Tower 3 is supposed to be WeWork, which is still mentioned on the TAB website.

If you mean having a cannabis store at the base of a high-rise residential tower is priority over a grocery store, that is pretty sad. Weed smokers have far more convenience to get high, spreading their fumes to neighboring units to enjoy. TAB cannot be more "prime" location than Oakridge , yet Oakridge has a grocery . When TAB marketed phase 1 , they talked about Brentwood Market which is now long gone. I thought at the time Brentwood Market was similar to Granville Island Market with specialties food , produce, fresh meat etc. Again Brentwood Market is not suitable for a "prime " location.

Brentwood promised a lot of stuff and so far it's pretty much a fail. The food court still isn't full, most of the units promised to open in 2021 haven't even been started yet, many places have been quietly removed from their posters and are no longer opening.

Even as it goes it's going to be at least 4 - 5 years before we can enjoy phase 2 and it doesn't look that promising.

Oh how terrible that Shape didn't consult you and make sure all the stores you want will be open (and none you're not interested in) on the day you move into your suite. You keep harping on about this. In what world does 'luxury mall' translate to 'the first thing we'll announce is a grocery store'??? This is how long into the 20+ years of development? Also it's not as if this is in the middle of a barren desert and there are no food options for hundreds of miles - there are two grocery stores within walking distance, as you've noted.

While I'm at it, did you star in Reefer Madness? This will be the second BC Cannabis store in Burnaby, so it's not more convenient than going grocery shopping. FYI it's run by the same people who run the BC Liquor store - do you have a heart attack that there's one of those in the area too? There are rules and regulations about where these stores can be and where people can consume their products (smoking is only one of the options). If any of the towers are decently made, you shouldn't be able to tell if your neighbours are smoking cigarettes of any variety.

Interesting that you didn't comment on a single thing I said.

I don't use THC containing products - I have used a couple medicinal CBD products though. Perhaps you should do some research before making wild statements.

Then again you don't seem to have done a whole lot of research about this development either. If you had you wouldn't keep bringing up the lack of a grocery store in the early stages of a multi-decade development.

indigo books/lifestyle was positioned to take over most of the plaza space where LL Bean is now, but they pulled out, probably due to covid and delays and their own teetering on demise.

Aritzia brand Wilfred was going to take the corner space across from H&M but they pulled out and it sits empty.

Louis Castel a Korean golf brand with stores in Toronto, was going to open next to Suit Supply but they pulled out.

JAC, womens clothing has signs saying it will open in 2021, but still nothing.

Suit Supply, changed their sign from Spring 2021 to opening 2022, but no action going on from what one can see peeking in.

White Spot was opening a Nat's Brewhouse but it has now changed to a R&D by White Spot, can't tell if it's being constructed or not, it will be a restaurant inside the food court.

Tesla was going to open in the old Sears space temporarily until that space gets redeveloped in a future phase.

WeWork was going to open in Tower 3 but nothing yet.

Bella Gelato seems to never get going despite it saying it would open in 2021.

Cactus Club pulled out, luckily Tap & Barrel took the space but won't open until 2023.

LA TAQUERIA is set to open in 2022, was supposed to be 2021.

Nothing has happened inside the old mall but stores closing up and getting boarded up. Perhaps they don't want to lease any of the spaces? as there is a planned reno of the old mall in a future phase.

I did notice on Instagram today that there was a sneak peek type of event for phase two and looks like the sale center has reopened. From the renders doesn't look like much retail be added.

Shape is in the business of investing billions here to attract the LVMH & Tiffany&Co of the world, not some lame grocery stores selling fresh produce

Without Holt Renfrew as an anchor, I wouldn't be surprised if the high end aspect is off the table, especially if the anchors end up being lower end (ie Saks Off Fifth, Nordstrom Rack).

Add to the changes Steve Nash Fitness World replaced with Evolve Strength - not open yet, I don't think.
https://www.evolvestrength.ca/brentwood/

The changes aren't surprising given the retail disruption from Covid.
