They did change the "- Stacked tunnels from 37th Avenue to 63rd Avenue." to side-by-side.

Not really. King Edward station has 2 escalators providing access from the same side. Side platform stations underneath or above streets like oakridge, langara and Brentwood typically have 3 escalators and centre platform with mezzanine stations like olympic village or City Centre typically have 2 escalators.

Where direct access to the platform escalators / elevators is not blocked by a street (most expo / millenium line elevated stations and waterfront and all elevated canada line stations) generally only 2 escallators are necessary for side platform stations and 1 for centre platforms

Early 2022. They were hiring for a TBM Engineer last week.

They put a Jan 10 starting date on it, will be great to see this moving ahead quickly!

There is now a line of 4x4 wood posts between the existing wire fence on the left and the excavation pit. I think these are relatively recently installed. Looks to be for a solid plywood or similar type fence to be installed? Maybe they are tired of lookie-loos?

Thanks for the pics, mattropolis. I see they did put up their lookee-loo blocking wood wall.

So are they working 24hrs now on columns between VCC station and Emily Carr ?

Nothing much new in https://www.broadwaysubway.ca/construction/current-work/ just utility relocations at other station sites.

There have been dump trucks coming through the tunnel portal site late, I'm not sure if it has been continuous 24 hours.

Normal hours at the guideway column work. Right now they are preping for rotary piling East of Foley St and excavators working to remove pavement on Earl Finning Way.

Tunnel boring machine (TBM) is constructed and is on its way to BC. It should arrive in the Springtime.

Quote:

BC minister of state for infrastructure Bowinn Ma says the giant machines passed the factory acceptance testing stage this week.

Both machines are identical in size, with a width of six metres (20 ft) and a length of 100 metres (328 ft).

They are expected to dig and complete the concrete tunnel ring structure at a rate of about 18 metres (60 ft) per day, with an average depth of about 15 metres (49 ft) and a maximum depth of 20 metres (66 ft) at Broadway-City Hall Station in order to dive under the Canada Line tunnel.

These TBMs will complete a five-kilometre-long segment of tunnel, travelling from the tunnel boring pit north of the intersection of Great Northern Way and Thornton Street, which doubles as the subway footprint of the Great Northern Way-Emily Carr Station.

The progress on excavating and preparing the tunnel boring pit is now highly advanced to meet the schedule of assembling and launching the machines from the site in the middle of 2022.

Following tradition, upon arrival, the TBMs are expected to be named.

Between Summer 2022 and the middle of 2023, the TBMs will travel through the excavated subway station boxes along Broadway, made possible by the installation of temporary road decks to allow for excavation and station construction beneath flowing vehicle traffic.

By Summer 2023, if all goes as planned, the tunnel boring machines will arrive at the extraction pit at the intersection of West Broadway and Cypress Street, just east of Arbutus Station, where they will be removed and disassembled.

Based on the Evergreen tunnel boring being finished in 2016 and opening on Dec 2, 2016 Am I to assume that the possible early opening date could be summer to late 2024?

The time between tunnelling completion and opening will be longer for Broadway than it was for Evergreen, because the tunnel was just one section of the Evergreen extension.

They were able to get all the tracks and power and other wayside systems installed and tested between Burquitlam and Lougheed, and between Lafarge Lake and Moody Centre while the tunnelling was still taking place.

With the Broadway extension being entirely tunnelled, they'll need to wait for tunnelling to be complete before they can start installing and testing anything.

It's funny how turning the calendar from December 2021 to January 2022 makes 2025 seem that much closer
