Anyways, back to the topic at hand...

You know, just excavating under your condo.. or very close to it.

Also didn't see anything going on further to the east behind O2/Tim Hortons / Tesla Delivery centre / EA-old Mec Office building yet.

Thanks.
The suspended walkway reminds me of the one that was bolted to the side of Sears during Canada Line construction.

Yeah thanks!

It's going to be interesting to watch the construction through 887 GNW's parking structure.

Elevated Guideway
by B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, on Flickr

Ya, totally. A repost reminder for all that this is a MOT pic of eventual behind 887 Great Northern Way (aka O2/Tim Horton's building).

Just core through parking lot or demolish and rebuild? Does anyone know? Guesses? Will they be using an overhead grantry to put small segment pieces together or doing an old-school "single piece" big lift?

i don't see why they wouldn't be able to core through the parking garage. they could probably re-engineer sections to allow the loads to transfer. it really depends how well built/overbuilt the original parking structure is.

based on their render, it looks like single pieces between columns.

Sure, but what happens if the owners ever want to redevelop and ditch the parkade? I'm guessing TransLink'll want a solution where the guideway columns are independent of any one building.

What about the building immediately to the east? Looks to me like the guideway would have to take out at last a wedge of its northwest corner...

They already chopped off the side of that building I believe. And they called them 30.5m pieces between each of the columns in the YouTube overview video.

I'm still coming to terms with the idea of chopping pieces off buildings like they did with the Safeway at Broadway station. Seems a bit too much like grown-ups playing with buildings like they were toys to me, somehow...

An end of the then Fields store on the NE corner of Knight & Kingsway was chopped off when Knight was widened ages ago.

Haussmann chopped a third of the buildings in Paris. That guy wasn't playing around.

Kitsilano private school suing Broadway Subway over alleged noise and safety impacts
Kenneth Chan | Dec 14 2021, 12:42 pm

A Catholic elementary school located immediately adjacent to the future Arbutus Station of the SkyTrain Millennium Line Broadway Extension has filed legal action in the Supreme Court of BC against the provincial government.

The school is seeking the implementation of 10 measures entirely funded by the Broadway Subway project, including the installation of a visual barrier around the Arbutus Station construction site, a sound barrier on the south and east sides of the school property facing the station site, and flashing lights at the intersection of West 7th Avenue and Arbutus Street.

Furthermore, they are demanding the monitoring, maintenance, and replacement of the school’s HVAC filters for construction dust, the production of a traffic management plan that provides traffic control personnel to protect students using crosswalks, the diversion of all construction vehicle traffic southbound on Arbutus Street, and the elimination of all construction vehicle traffic on Arbutus Street during the school’s pick-up and drop-off periods in the morning and afternoon..

Sounds like some of this is driven by their opposition to this project

Talk about NIMBYism at its finest. Considering that there are schools all over the city - including the DTES where no doubt these concerned citizens wish the project was going - it is inevitable that supportive housing will be in close proximity to schools.

Although I can understand some of the concerns by parents, I would argue that it is good for people of different ages, backgrounds, and socio-economic classes to be aware of each other. Keeping social housing out of specific neighborhoods is less about safety and more about maintaining a blissfully ignorant household where food and shelter are a given instead of a blessing.

Good luck winning that case.

In their video they want to turn the BC Housing project into community green space. Surprise, surprise.

For maximum irony, all the BC Housing applicants whose building got cancelled will end up homeless and camp on their new lawn.

Good for St. Augustine’s School to take legal action against the amount of construction at Arbutus Skytrain Station because the problem is that it affects them negatively since they are so close to the area. Its not unexpected that they took action because I had noticed that today since all the construction activity at the Arbutus Skytrain Station proposed site is increasing traffic. I also felt concerned too about how it affects teachers and students at that school right across. Hopefully, their concerns are going to be taken seriously and not ignored.

They should stop educating kids maybe it will encourage less residents in the area.

Construction happens, get over it. Don't like it? Find somewhere you can buy 50 acres and not have to see or hear your neighbours.
