I may use a better camera moving forward. I'd also like to see if I can get pictures from a higher floor.

I'd say the tower portion of this build is officially at grade level. Parking garage seems to be a few weeks behind.

Taken December 23, 2021.

What does this even mean for this project? Will they stop construction? I doubt it.

Id bet 100% they stop construction until either a permit is issued or a conditional permit.

They may be able to do work that isn't foundational in nature. I believe the ground floor also has quite a bit of other things that need to be installed ahead of continued construction. May have also received a conditional permit, since McMaster is on better terms with Hamilton than Darko is. It also wasn't a stop work order, so it may have been a mistake since a permit is currently in review status.

I wonder if they just submitted this yesterday?

21 120754 00

To construct the foundation for a new 30-storey student residence building with 5 storeys above grade parking and one storey below-grade parking.

I saw them pouring concrete earlier today lol. Seems like they don't really care about this notice.

Like I said, I read the notice again, and it doesn't seem to a stop work order, it just indicates they need to get a permit approved. Work can sometimes continue if there's the expectation the permit review will pass or that there will be minor changes that don't significantly impact the work.

Pretty weak order to comply if there's no stop work order to go along with it lol. Basically "pay us the fee now! Or Else...... Pretty Please."

I've noticed progress has slowed down on this one quite a bit. Seems like they finished pouring the foundation and stopped.

I noticed a new permit is in review,

Quote:
To construct the super structure of a new 30 storey residential building for McMaster University that will consist of 27 storeys of residences with a 2 level podium that will accommodate amenity spaces. It also includes 5 storeys above grade parking and 1 storey below grade parking.
So I guess they're waiting for that.

I noticed construction has resumed here. Looks like they're getting ready to pour the first level of the elevator shaft and core.

Orange tarps mean concrete being poured or soon to be poured:

I think we can safely call this at-grade.

Seems like my guess was moderately accurate (though in part because they seemed to be having permit issues).

haha nice try.... they poured the floor slab around December 23 according to my drone pictures. I'd say it reached grade right between our two predictions.

At the rate this project is moving I wonder if it will actually top out before Cobalt.

Its moving pretty quickly now. I was surprised when I took this picture to see these columns sticking up since they were just building the forms yesterday.

Looks like we may see the first floor completely done in 2 -3 weeks, which is pretty good for a first floor.

The parking garage is still below grade though oddly enough. They have a ton of people on site though. When I took this picture I spotted like 20 or 30 people working, and there are more below ground doing other work in the basement.

Cobalt isn't something I've been able to keep as close an eye on, but it seems a lot quieter.
