Having lived directly beside the main downtown firehall in Victoria, yah it can be noisy and it is literally non-stop 24 hours per day, especially with the overdose crisis. That being said the units above the firehall have no balconies, they will have far better soundproofing than my place ever had. Also they will do their daily ladder truck testing, chain saw testing, and all that noisy stuff at other locations. Not sure if the fire department is that pleased with the arrangement, but they do get a building that can withstand a massive earthquake.

I'm fine with schools, fire halls, etc. being included in larger towers as I am with them being in single use buildings.

In any case it doesn't seem like the most ideal place to live.

There has been more talk of activity at the Skye site so maybe that will happen. A crane base went in for this one too, at Robie and Quinpool:

Not yet topped out.

The other, bigger building behind it is called E2 at E Place...it's a lot of grey spandrel and glass. Just part of the changing feeling of this area.

Everyone glues prewar townhouses onto new towers. Anyone else glue 1960s apartment buildings onto new towers?

The Royal - Paris, Ontario (looks gauche)

Piper's Grove - Ayr

180 Northumberland apartments, Ayr

I finally made it to Brantford last week - drove dozens of downtown residential streets and the core - very interesting place! Very urban all it needs is rich people (although I find it refreshing to be honest the way it is.) Fantastic hilly streets for practicing my hill starts (stick shift.) Anyway this project is going up near the casino and looks out of place: Grand Bell Suites

a bunch of projects from Hamilton Mountain

The Market Flats - Kitchener - looks inspired by the Roncevalles Lofts - not a bad effort by Vive Developments

Even better is their Ophelia on Queen St S

Lancaster on the Grand - another large rental development underway by Vive

Most of KW builders don't understand aesthetics
eg DTK Condos - so horrific it gave me a migraine

Civic 66 rentals - yuck

Madison and King St E rentals

The Bow on Benton

Young Condos - not awful but not great considering its prime downtown King St location

Charlie West etc from Victoria Park lake

Gaslight District on the edge of downtown Galt - nasty precast podium

People are talking about cities rarely discussed - how about Burlington?
Gallery Condos

Bridgewater on the Lake - a very dated c.2000 Vancouver-style tower

Love to see growth in the Brant-Waterloo-Guelph triangle, even if some of it is absolute eyesore. DTK Condos look awful. Young Condos wouldn't be bad if the tower were moved towards the street and if the blank wall was something else. Ophelia and Gallery look good.

DTK is just larger than the first few 15 to 20 storey glass towers that do a decent job at hiding a level or two of above grade parking.

Pretty sure a building is going up in front of Young Condos blank wall

Gaslight District is atrocious. It's got to be from Drewlo, Trican, Old Oak ... any of the pre fab southern Ontario builders.

That blank wall is where the art deco facade of the old Forsyth's factory will be mounted, no?

I recall a facade. That must it. It was abutting the street's sidewalk. The structure is currently set far back of it.

That view of Young condos is from the "back" - it's much better along King St.

Burlington's stuff is good to see. Bridgewater is pretty dated looking but it's urbanism is pretty good with lots of retail and a hotel integrated into it.

Bye bye Tour de la Bourse!

I never thought I'd see the day when that tower would be obscured by an even taller one!
