When suggesting a routing like YQT-YYC-Europe, you’re definitely extremely far away from the concept of “maximizing yield”.

And with only a 7300 ft runway? Keep dreaming. Unfortunately it's a little far from YYC-YQT for the Q400, so if they can have a 737 arrive to connect with the 10:00AM departure bank, and leave after the 10PM arrivals would be their best bet from YYC. They'd get what every other city in Western Canada gets. Not sure what the loads are to justify any more flights to YYC than that.

To go to Europe you'd be better off going to YYZ, better time leaving YQT, more variety.

Not a routing, but coordinating the attempt at super connector hub to the west coast, Europe, even sun destinations.

I took the flight a few times, it was rarely full.

Would YYC/YQT/YYZ make any sense at all? They used to do a run like that when WestJet was first starting out. It was super convenient for how I was travelling, not sure if it was profitable for the airline or not.

Thunder Bay was a major PITA to fly to in the years leading up to the pandemic.

You're right. YYC-YQT would be like YYC-YQB and YYC-YYG in that it's for very seasonal leisure maybe 2x weekly in June-September. Nothing major.

WS has increased SFO to up to 4x weekly over the winter months. It was previously announced at just 2x weekly for its first winter season.

Nice to see they're doing well enough to add additional flights.

Yes & they’re competing with WestJet which has daily flights ✈️ from Calgary YYC & Comox YQQ.

Don’t be surprised if Air Canada (AC) adds YYC- Comox too.

I'm not sure if AC will come back on the YYC-YQQ route. They've done it before and unsuccessfully. I feel like WS has the market covered and maybeee Flair could make a go of it.

Two things. LH has finally pushed FRA-YYC over to EW in the GDS. Still showing up to 5x weekly on a 333.

Also AC is joining WS on YQB next summer.

I did not expect to ever see AC launch this route, but glad to see it. Set to run 4x weekly beginning May 21.

WS currently has YQB scheduled up to 4x weekly from late June. Be interesting to see if that moves up to May now.

2 questions.
1. I know they want to compete with WS out of YYC. But it's still odd to have 4x weekly at YYC vs 3x at YVR?
2. Will this be like BOS and YXU where it never launched?

Aviacionline (AL) interviewed WestJet Frank Satusky who is currently their new Director for Network and Schedule Planning & he used to work for Air Canada.

Key points he said WestJet plans to continue to build its 3 busiest hubs in Calgary,Toronto & Vancouver 1st✅! "FS: We have three hubs, and we will continue to focus on building our three hubs. But part of WestJet’s mandate is to be across the country; we have bases across the country, from Vancouver to Halifax and everything in between, and we want to continue to grow, and our focus also needs to be on building that up. Calgary will remain our main base of operations and Vancouver and Toronto our other major hubs – we want to continue to grow our hubs, while remaining present across the country".

Also he mentioned WestJet plans to continue to focus on Europe & along with Arizona, Las Vegas, California, Florida leisure destinations in the United States, etc.

He also mentioned WestJet plans to use their 787 planes✈️ out of their hubs to build and carry flows from across North America, across the Atlantic, into Europe and beyond.

To me it sounds like they still have plans for the 787's in S22.

I imagine the 787 delivery delays are why they haven't announced anything yet.

Do you think that it's likely WS will get the 4 frames by say May or June? It would 🞵🞵🞵🞵 to see these delays continue for so many more months. Doesn't look good on Boeing at all to have both of their produced commercial products delayed/grounded like this.

I’d say they may get the two currently in storage, but I have doubts they will get all 4 by Summer.

If it’s a Rouge aircraft, there’s nothing great about it.

The seat pitch in those aircraft is uncomfortable for anyone over 5-10. And if you’re 6-2 or taller, prepare for your knees to be crushed. Putting this aircraft on a flight of this distance amounts to passenger torture. (I’m 6-4. Never again. I’d rather connect than take a Rouge nonstop, or just find a different destination.)

Good thing WS also operates this flight, albeit for a shorter time.

WS appears to have updated its schedule through the end of January now.

From mid-December, looks like PUJ / FLL resume once weekly on Saturdays as well as the new Hawaii routes KOA / LIH on Sundays. VRA / NAS & BZE were all axed.

Several routes like JFK, IAH, PDX all get sizeable increases to 4-5x weekly. LAX gets a second flight on Thu / Sun.

From mid-December WS will run daily flights to LAX, PSP, PHX, LAS, ATL, OGG, HNL, CUN, PVR, SJD.

During the Christmas rush, it looks like LGW goes up to 4x weekly but mostly is planned 2x weekly.

All of this is of course subject to change.
