I was very hesitant to allow more landing rights for the ME3 pre-covid, and if you would have asked me two years ago I would have agreed with you.

However, when push came to shove, Qatar was one of the few airlines in the world willing to fly stranded Canadians back to their country in April/May of 2020. Yes, there was a financial incentive for them but it was early days in the pandemic and we still weren't sure of all the health risks associated with the disease. A similar story unfolded with repatriation flights for Australians.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I would like to see 1 of the ME3 get daily landing rights at YYC. If this means we don't have multiple carriers to FRA (AC and LH/DE) or LON (AC/BA/WS) so be it. QR has strong connectivity in the Middle/Far East, India/Pakistan and even to some further points in Asia. All future growth areas. And there is still the whole connecting of two oil regions thing (regardless of where you stand on that industry).

YYC has been European centric for a long time, I think it's time to look beyond that continent and see if we wouldn't be better served connecting to one of the Gulf mega-hubs.

Unrelated note, but KLM also deserves a special appreciation for maintaining their flight throughout almost the entire pandemic. I doubt they made money every month but still stuck through the hard times and maintained a European link, more than can be said about AC or WS.

None of the ME3 even have daily flights to YYZ, much less YYC. You can add TK to that list as well.

I mean you're not wrong. The more I think of it one ME3 flight wouldn't be bad at all, especially for connections to Africa, Middle East, South and even Eastern Asia or Australia. They do seem pretty reliable. And I mean, you're not wrong that pretty much all of our long-haul flights are to Europe. It would be nice to have a bit of change.

With just 6 days to go, maybe AC really will restart FRA on Sunday! PHX/YHZ is also back on Sunday with AC metal as well. Next week, we'll have 4 flights to Europe.

WS also finally loaded its code onto KL operated flights within Europe to places like LHR, LCY, MAN, LIS, VIE, MUC.

August is looking like a pretty strong month, both domestically and international.

Air Canada:
FRA - 3x weekly
PHX - 3x weekly

WestJet:
LGW - 2x weekly
AMS - 2x weekly
CDG - 1x weekly (from the 20th)
LAS - 10x weekly
LAX - 1x daily
PHX - Up to 10x weekly
ATL - Up to 1x daily
SFO - Up to 4x weekly
PSP - Up to 4x weekly
CUN - 2x weekly
PVR - 2x weekly

United:
DEN - 1x daily

American:
DFW - 2x daily

Delta:
MSP - 1x daily

KLM:
AMS - 6x weekly (YEG tag potentially returns August 19th).

I'm not getting why they can't just re-open Concourse A. It would have been far less complicated to implement.

Tomorrow I fly out of YYC for the first time 2 years. My understanding looking at the maps, the international terminal is used so the concourse D food court has 3 fast food and 2 dining options.

Excited to try out the WESTJET Elevation Lounge.

Will let everyone know my impressions of the covid set up.

WS has now revised its schedule through mid-October. LAS really picking up steam with days of 3 flights. (Overall up to 13x weekly).

IAH, PDX and SJD look planned in September with SAN and MZT planned in early October.

Across the pond, LGW is 3x weekly, AMS 3x weekly and CDG 1x weekly.

Also today AC resumes YHZ, PHX and FRA! Nice to see AC really ramping up its ops here.

WS posted its schedule until October 12th now.

In September, they plan to launch flights to YDQ and resume flying to SJD, PDX, IAH, BNA. They then plan to resume MZT, SAN, and MCO in October.

Your bet was correct. WS Encore appears to be adding YYC-SEA starting November 4th.

DL isn't coming back till 2022, and I think by then they won't bother.

AS is fine - they get a lot of traffic to SEA. The plan is likely to feed SEA from YYC much like they do with ATL. Both WS and DL don't need to fly it.

@hollywoodcory - Why is AC slow rolling their trans-border so much? PHX only? They're running 3x daily to LAX out of YVR but can't even manage a 3x a week service out of YYC?

I get EWR might take a bit but LAX, SFO, IAH.... should be returning.

This annoyed me as well. I had to take a connecting flight to YVR recently to fly to LAX. The return was delayed and I missed my connection to Calgary and had to stay overnight in YVR.

I'd just take WS instead as it's direct. But would be nice to have options.

I wouldn't be surprised if SFO and IAH don't return on AC/Jazz. UA can cover the market just fine with AC codeshares. It's better for onward connections to start your journey with the same carrier anyways.

Would like to see LAX return ASAP, ideally double daily, to capture those StarA connections.
