Walked by TWG yesterday evening after work, and saw the inside torn up. Was aghast to find out today that it closed permanently. Sad to see such a beautiful cafe gone.

I was always surprised to see it there if I happened to walk past. West Georgia's such an ugly environment, with too many cars, so I don't think they put tables on the street when inside tables had to be closed.

Robson seems more pedestrian friendly, with the pop-up patios, (and the line up for Paul's is the Instagram flavour of the month), and that might have been a better location for them, or Alberni like Thierry. And David's Tea seems to be hanging on at the Dunsmuir location for retail tea options (and Murchies are a few blocks to the north).

David's is a cruel joke for Tea lovers and the service at Murchies is generally a crime.

Not drinking tea, I'll accept your judgement. As you suggest it was superior to the other offerings in the area, you'd think it ought to have survived. Maybe it was just in the wrong place.

TWG always seemed really busy (pre-pandemic, at least). I wonder what will move in, another cafe of some sort hopefully,

TWG is moving to Robson Street to the former Tesla showroom. Their own website also says "temporarily closed"

It says 'so' rather than 'because'. It's not closing *because* they can't find staff, they just don't have enough currently but aren't even trying to hire more due to the upcoming closure.

I can't find an application or proposal for the building. The address isn't listed on spacelist, though. It's only about ten years old.

you'd think a dailyhive article could mention a previous dailyhive article about why it's closing down, ffs lol. then trying to make it seem like a sudden shock.

Actually, that render and the one shown on this CityDuo post show that the building in question isn't part of this: https://cityduo.wordpress.com/2019/03/21...revitalization-hinges-on-one-small-step/

I also think it says "We are closing this location permanently so we don't have enough stuff", meaning "we might not have the doughnut you want".

Now that I look a little closer, I agree. Not that Tim Hortons usually has much to choose from these days anyways. Oh for the days when they actually baked things at the store.
