Yeah, sorry its a 787-10. 78X is the IATA code (Like 788 / 789).

Okay thanks. Sorry about my ignorance. Now that it makes sense in my head I will Google up on my own the differences between a 787-9 and a 787-10.

On a more serious note, looks like YYC lost $243 million last year, and is considering selling some assets.

That's a pretty high number considering ADM, which operates 2 airports, only lost $234 million, and with less passengers to boot !

Could it be the new terminal is still draining on YYC's finances?

Probably. Opened less than 5 years ago with the hopes of continued growth. No one could have predicted a global pandemic so short after opening.

For more than 3 months last year, there wasn't a single international flight other than to the US. Even now, it's just one flight to AMS a few times a week.

In other news, WS has axed AUS for the year. Kinda surprised FCO / DUB have survived the cuts so far.

The most frustrating this is the people who said the new terminal is a white elephant now have an excuse to say they're right. Boy, summer 2020 with those WestJet Dreamliners lined up for Europe and that new transborder wall late afternoon to connect off them. We were doing so well.

Public access is being closed to a couple of locations popular with local plane spotters due to what the Calgary Airport Authority describes as safety concerns.

The authority said it had to make the difficult decision to close the unofficial viewing areas along the airport's east runway last week.

The berm area was popular among many members of the local aircraft-spotting community, who used it for viewing and photography.

Well the plot thickens as AC has now upguaged YYC-FRA to a 77L next summer. S22 is starting to show promise (although a lot can change between now and then though).

YYC had a design for a new spotting area on the East runway (I think it was along Country Hills Boulevard?) but never built it. I'm not sure why they scrapped it.

That was the point, between AC & LH there will be upwards of 80 J class seats on 5 days a week next Summer on YYC-FRA. I believe the route always preforms strongly for AC.

They do routinely upguage it to the 777, and right before the route was suspended due to COVID it was flying on a 77W.

I guess AC/LH are anticipating a surge in demand next year given the increase in overall frequency and seat count.

Air Canada adding 3x weekly service to HNL starting in December. I believe this is actually a service resumption for them.

Operates opposite days as the WS service on Tue, Thu, Sat. (WS on Fri / Sun and Mon.)

Anyone have thoughts on BA returning to YYC? It won't be in '21 but maybe in '22?

It may be a stretch but I think we could support 3X daily London flights (WS to LGW and AC/BA to LHR) in the post-Covid world.

Summer '22 we should be able to support 3 or 4X additional weekly FRA on Eurowings or LH and whatever we were getting on Edelweiss from ZRH pre-pandemic. I have a feeling 2022 will be a big year for inbound European travel to Alberta/BC.

LH is planning to resume service March 27, 2022 5x weekly on a mainline 330 (instead of EW). I don't see BA coming back for a few years, I had a feeling they were going to drop the route even before COVID.

Edelweiss and Condor are both still scheduled in July this year, but I have my doubts. Condor will probably get chased out by Lufthansa next year.

My guess for 2022 TATL is:
AC FRA/LHR
WS LGW/CDG/DUB/FCO
KL AMS
LH FRA
WK ZRH?

WS will have 10 787s next summer, so maybe we can see GLA / MAN? Not sure if they'll actually be in a position to expand that soon.

I don't see Asia coming back for a while.

Additionally, American Airlines currently is planning 5 daily flights in S22 with 2x DFW / 2x ORD & 1x PHX, which is up from the 4 they ran in S19.

The slots at Heathrow are going to be the limiting factor for BA. I'm not sure YYC has enough potential over other markets to make it work, especially since Westjet's going to be competing for those leisure passengers with flights to Gatwick and AC to Heathrow.

My YYZ-YYC in August was just changed from a 321 to a 789 and I received 18C or economy exit row/sorta bulkhead separation from premium.

Some updates:

-AA increases DFW to 2x daily E75 later this week.
-AC has axed YHZ for the summer and further delayed FRA / LHR.
-Condor still has flights scheduled 2x weekly from July 2, but I'm sure that will change.
-Edelweiss also still scheduled 2x weekly from July 9th.
-KLM removed the YEG tag until late July, but still plans to operate 6x weekly from June 27.

WS extended their schedule into S22, and maybe third times the charm when it comes to launching FCO/BOS. Both now scheduled from May 2022. They also resume PVR 1x weekly this Saturday.
