Supposedly begins week of May 3, according to your document.

However, nothing bookable so far, and May is just around the corner.

Highly unlikely WS flies to LHR in 2021. This is basically the same as those ad-hoc slots WS received for W20 season. They won't use them.

Just booked YYC-YYZ this summer on AC... $340 return.

Liking these fares.

I'm assuming YYC's semi-new international terminal has been a ghost town the last year or so...

From the YYC March 30, 2020 News Release:

"Beginning March 31 at 12:01 a.m. we will begin consolidating our terminal operations to adjust to declining passenger volumes. All decisions regarding our operations, both in terminal and airside, ensure the continued safety and security of our guests, staff and partners:
  • All domestic departures/arrivals will operate from Concourse B & C. Concourse A will be closed.
  • Consolidate domestic check-in areas, bag drop and baggage carousel operations.
  • All international and U.S. arrivals will continue to arrive in the International Terminal Building.
  • U.S. departures will continue to operate in the International Terminal Building in Concourse E, but pre-board screening and United States Customs and Border Protection hours may be reduced.
  • All international departures will check-in in the International Terminal building, but guests will go through pre-board screening at Concourse C. Guests will depart from gates D70/71, however the main Concourse D will be closed."

https://www.yyc.com/News/tabid/91/articl...-in-COVID-19-public-health-response.aspx

I assume this mode of operation is continuing to this day.

Security and concourse D has since re-opened, and they were using it even for domestic flights too, probably to accommodate KLM’s consolidated YEG service. Concourse A is still closed as far as I’m aware.

There’s more flights now than there was a year ago (Only AA and DL flew for about 3 months). We currently have UA, WS, AA, DL, KL and AC for next few weeks operating international flights.

Speaking of international, YYC has gotten a few more cargo only flights recently. AC has flown at least 2 PVG-ICN-YYC's on its converted cargo only 77W with word of a few more inbound.

TUI is flying up to 5 cargo only ops from Europe on its 787s, the first happened over the weekend and another one inbound later today.

To update above, looks like D is back to international only, as I don't see anymore domestic flights departing from those gates other than C70/71.

KLM gradually increasing its frequencies through Summer. 4x weekly from early May, 5x weekly from late May. The YEG triangle is currently scheduled to resume from May 27.

By end of June, KLM's updated presence is 6x weekly (4x weekly KL677/678 & 2x weekly KL679)

Not sure if it's already been shared on here (I don't check this thread nearly as much as I used to, mostly because it's too depressing) but YYC's 2021 AGM is coming up this Wednesday, April 14 at 9:00 MST. Expect the same format as last year (virtual / pre-recorded) and likely with similar messaging. Hopefully by this time next year the AGM's will start resembling something similar to the pre-pandemic ones.

If by lunch, you mean a ham and cheese sandwich AC threw in the garbage last year, then yes.

AF/KL received a $10 billion Euro bailout last year. They will receive another one this year. AC/WS haven't received anything. Thus, operating loss making routes to Europe isn't part of their agenda.

Why else do you think WS has rejected the slots it received at Europe's most prestigious airport for back to back seasons now? Even BA's ops to Canada have been limited to YYZ since the onset of the pandemic. (They briefly relaunched YUL but suspended soon after)

As for AC, their position vis a vis YYC long haul ops has been clear for the last decade.

Is Lufthansa coming back in 2022? They have filed and opened for booking flights LH472/473 from March 27th 5x weekly.

As this is nearly a full year out additional changes are likely. They did announce 4x weekly service for 2020 with the Eurowings brand.

By Sept. 30, Air Canada had already received $492 million in federal subsidies.

Looks like it's an Airbus 333. These are the same flight numbers previously used for YOW-FRA. Did LH and AC agree to switch to YYC?

Maybe? I know YYC-FRA is a highly profitable route for AC, and will probably be the first long haul to resume in the coming months.

Either their expecting a surge in demand (although a total of 12x weekly is a little excessive) or LH is replacing AC metal.

I guess there isn't much harm in loading these flights and if they don't get sufficient bookings they can be dropped and re-booked onto the AC flights.

I can't see AC wanting to give up YYC-FRA - that would seem to be the last route they would drop.

More likely, LH is a seasonal route intended to compensate for dropping Eurowings and Condor. YVR-FRA belongs to LH with AC running in summer, so guessing YYC-FRA would be AC with LH doing a summer run. It is interesting that these are the same flight numbers for YOW-FRA so it might be a bone to LH as they decided demand would be higher from YYC. My guess is they just switched out from Eurowings to mainline. Pre-COVID, we would have been well over 12x weekly YYC-FRA between AC, Eurowings and Condor.

I have seen (and likely you would definitely have seen with OAG) YYC-FRA being up gauged in summer to a 777.

Given the JV, it wouldn't matter who flew the route as both airlines would make money.

I mean, a lot can change in the next year so who knows. Most of AC's traffic to FRA is connecting onwards anyways.

Is that for next summer as well? I don't have access to OAG schedules beyond 360 days. Is it a 77L or 77W?

It's not up-gauged now, I've just seen AC up-gauge it in the past. You are right they could give it to LH, but I don't see why unless they need to free up the frame and it's not like they need to do that. It seems far more likely given the evidence (Condor/Euro replacement and same flight numbers as YOW-FRA) this is a summer seasonal route.

Unless they plan on dehubbing YYC or something.

Small change compared to the $5.9 billion they will receive with today's announcement.

KLM flying the 78X today, the first appearance of said aircraft at YYC.

UA unsurprisingly delayed the resumption of ORD & IAH to July. UA had previously already slashed its Canadian flights until late October.

What is a 78X? A variant of a Dreamliner?
