We could only hope. That’s about as good as it gets with them.

I like it.

I like the ground floor retail along Somerset, the articulated balconies, the glazing (although I would prefer they lighten up the tint of the glass), the landscaping along breezehill...

As long as they don't buy their material from the dollar store next door, this should be a nice project.

Oh they will. This is the second time they have gone with a quality architectural firm and this will be the second time they mess up the design with shitty materials. I'd LOVE to be proven otherwise but the precedent has been set for a long time with these clowns.

IMO this design should hold up to value engineering much better than the icon. The hundreds of balcony glass pieces each with unique curved geometry were likely a massive manufacturing cost for the icon. It's too bad they couldn't have designed the balconies in a way that was more efficient for manufacturing, such as One Bloor in Toronto, where they used the same curved glass pieces the entire way up.

The simple balcony design here would actually work fine with the Dollarama glass they are trying to fit on Icon. It would probably be a good idea to remove the glass from Icon to use here and order custom glass for Icon at the 11th hour.

Thanks for the hope!

Saw an ad for this, looks like they're launching in the spring under the name Claridge 'Hintonburg'

I don’t trust this rendering

I hate to say this but given this builder’s previous track record, as much as I like the design of this building, i would not trust them to build something that looks this great.

Sure the rendering looks ok, but there are no fine details. The balcony rails are *once again* perfectly smooth things with no detail. What are they supposed to be made of/coated with/attached to? They also don't look tall enough to be proportional for a railing? Is there something else attached to the tops of them? Sorry, I've done ZERO research, so I'm not much help.

Here's how the design meetings are going:

Architect: "And here we have the smooth, stainless steel railings, full-panel, custom, face mounted of course..."
Claridge: "Can we just do aluminum pickets in black, and not even bother to coat or paint the bare concrete?"
Architect: *Leaves room* *Screams* *Comes back in*
Claridge: "Also, can we just do clear anodized curtain walls where you have shown nice cladding, everywhere else?"
Architect: *Opens window, jumps out*

Edit: Ok I haven't been fair here. I looked at the previous page, and I saw that all of those renderings could be accomplished with the same Claridge materials as found on other towers, on brand. Except the balcony railings. Not sure where they'll order those. I assume they're just perforated sheet metal panels, so it should be relatively easy to produce. Note I didn't say 'cheap' anywhere, I only inferred it, to be fair.

Another rendering from another ad - looks pretty chunky from this angle, but the design makes up for it imo

Very much looking forward to seeing how Claridge absolutely butchers those balconies.

Yes... maybe their curved glass panel order finally arrived and so they'll try to fit them onto the dead-straight balconies

The CrossFit gym currently on-site has to move out by end of May so I guess they want to get moving on this

Already looks like a dumbed-down version of the previous version...
