Not true.. Hampton Park Lofts (before it became 67% sold out) had multiple 1 bedroom units ranging from 500 - 620sq ft for 200 - 225K. Claridge Plaza III IV also had 1 bed units for 209 - 250K. They DO exist, don't need to go to Orleans, you just have to keep a look out and do your research. Also, > 650 sq ft 1 bedrooms are becoming VERY rare. I would say most are in the 500-600 range.

As for the view, the only decent view on wellington facing north will be above the 4th floor. The building across the street is 3 (very tall) stories plus a roof. Beyond that though your view of the river will be obstructed by the current and upcoming apartment/condo buildings on Parkdale and Scott. The downtown view might be pretty good from 6th floor and 7th floor terraces, if nothing gets built in the sightline.

You are correct though you should have pretty good resale assuming the condominium market begins to bounce back.
The building you are referring to is on the corner of Wellington and Carruthers. You would only see a bit of that if you are in the corner unit. Facing North, there isn't much blocking the view, expect a tree.

The view isn't spectacular of course but it beats looking at another condo building downtown, for example

Isn't it a bit convenient that they just conjure up 6 tall buildings on top of City Centre? (Which makes the Claridge towers blend in, instead of standing out.)

Have these "proposed buildings" (light pink) on City Centre actually been proposed?

I believe they are very loosely using the Bayview Station District Secondary Plan:

Quote:
The City completed the Bayview Station District
Community Design Plan and Secondary Plan in June
21, 2013 to guide the redevelopment of the former
industrial area into a vibrant mixed use community with
the Bayview Yards Innovation Centre as it development
anchor. The plan includes a range of building profiles
from 4-storeys to 30-storeys, as well as a mix of
land uses including: residential, office, institutional,
employment, community and open space

Approvals for the height are already in effect in the secondary plan... 30 storeys along the O-Train corridor

I definitely agree with "very loosely".
Most people would read "proposed" as "a developer has a specific proposed project for the site" not "this is the maximum zoned height permitted on that plot of land".

http://documents.ottawa.ca/sites/doc...schedule_b.pdf

Otherwise you could do every render with the maximum height allowed on every surrounding lot and say those are all surrounding "proposed" buildings.

Slightly off topic, but in the area nonetheless, does anyone know if there is anything planned for the large chunk of land where 1 storey industrial buildings (I think belonging to gvt. of Canada) stood until this spring when they were demolished? I am talking about the land between Somerset and Gladstone and East of the O-train tracks.

IMHO, the immediate area will take at least 15 years to look respectable.

Did Claridge ask the architect to make all the renders so dark they are almost invisible so they can have more leeway to bait and switch with the materials?

This could very well become the next Clardige Icon: landmark design, disappointing execution.
