Thanks.
I would think that the 2 parcels to the south would be perfect for a building of similar scale to the Bower Buildings.

Hold up...

Eject everyone on council because they are inept morons, reason; unwritten policy.

Glad to hear otherwise positive comments. The building is gorgeous.
There is also an unwritten rule that any clown that holds office should be sacked with immediate effect.

A good example of old and new together.
ie glad the City didn't force it to be built in brick to 'match' the old.

off topic - anyone know what that annoying beeping (like a fire alarm) is downtown?
I can hear it over Yaletown, and even at the office at TD Tower (more faintly).

In my opinion, that's a perfect way to marry old and new.

Great project, and fantastic execution.

Looks good but why didn't they have the new portion extend all the way to the brick wall?

You mean to the left or to the bottom section?

Just noticed the entire section of new office on the right is recessed.

The new part is probably set back so it doesn't look like "facadism".
ie so the old part has its own presence.

Looks great.

The new copper roof on the Sun Tower is slowly being revealed. Was quite eye catching today in the sunshine.

The fins make that addition look significantly better.

^^Oh gawd, this keeps getting worse... what relation do wood baffles and seafoam spandrel have to the rest of the tower? This is dumber than the modernist-era removal of cornices from older heritage buildings (often restored these days with the wisdom of hindsight).

All they needed to do for this "refresh" was keep the round chrome columns in front of a full-height glass wall (black spandrel if any) set a few metres back from where they have it.

Renovations at the Sandman Hotel on Georgia. Newer on the right, older on the left.

The green glass does brighten up the facade - and works with the gray concrete.
Glad they have not painted the concrete (or has it been painted?)

The whole tower is getting reclad. They started at the bottom, but the rest will follow soon. There's info in this thread somewhere.

Unfortunately, even after being reclad, it'll be a mish-mash of different designs.
The work on the base should have been sympathetic to the shape of the floorplates above - but it wasn't.
I don't recall the plan being to remove any of the projecting bay windows.
If they removed some of them to create a flat facade on the floor above the new in-fill
and for a few more floors up, with a staggered reintoduction of the bays, it might look okay.

Exactly. They butchered the original architecture, including the demolished dome, that this thing looks like a cruel joke now.
