Agreed. At the time, I couldn't understand why they didn't just spend some cash on renos and enhancements to Scarth St Mall and Victoria Park instead of building the useless Plaza.

I recently asked why Scarth St Mall is in such bad shape, and who is responsible for it. It technically is classified as a City Park, and this division is typically underfunded. At least that is what I was told. I am sure some of you know more than I.

I'm disappointed to see that there are no sidewalk tree wells on Victoria. All the trees will be in the centre median. I also noted that the concrete on either side of the median tree wells is not necessarily sloped towards the trees. This means the rainwater will run off onto the street instead of watering the trees. I've noticed this in other boulevards throughout the city. Where the bricks or concrete are sloped inward towards the trees, they grow very well. Otherwise they start to die off when they get larger. Perhaps there's irrigation on Victoria call but I didn't notice it.

They've been installing tubing along the boulevards, which I assume could be for irrigation, but I could be wrong.

First time back in Regina in a year, a few more from the Vic Av re-do this week. Once there's some trees growing in the median I think it'll look pretty good!



















Painting the traffic lights black really does help make it look more finished; would have been even nicer and less speedway-like if they did without the horizontal bar over the street and just stuck to vertical lights on the side (e.g. Montreal)

I'm just guessing here, but they have replaced some of the brick on the east and west facades. I don't know if they have done a complete repointing job. However, just based on the black colour, my guess is that this hotel will be rebranded as an ALT Hotel. Google images of ALT hotels, including the one in Saskatoon, and most of them are black.

I always hate to see brick or siding/metal roofing get painted. You're right, it looks like shit after a few years in our climate.

It has to be more than just paint, or they wouldn't have a masonry company (Brxton) doing the work. Must be some brick replacement or re-pointing at a minimum. As unattractive as the existing brickwork is, I do agree that painted brick is generally not a good long term solution.

Depends. If they're using a proper stain rather than paint, it might actually be alright.

That's all fine and good and a positive response I guess, but what is it going to take for either Harvard or the City to pony up the cash and drive around with a water truck once or twice a week in the summer? We do live in a semi desert climate after all. It's ridiculous that we can't maintain our prominent downtown properties. I live in the Greens/Towns area and the trees that line the boulevard on Chuka Drive etc. are faithfully watered by Wilco and it shows. I'm sure that once the developer hands everything over the city, they will let them die too.
