Saskatonians seem to hate Regina and think their city is so much better. I've seen this theme many times.

Meanwhile, Reginans don't think about Saskatoon all that much and don't really care. They don't mind it - they may even visit it from time to time. I'm sure they appreciate the river and its parks, but realize we have the Roughriders and Wascana Centre.

If my circumstances made me move to Saskatoon, I wouldn't mind living there, but I wouldn't consider it to be an upgrade. I think I'm far from alone.

Traditionally, Regina's envy has been more westward to Calgary, if anywhere. But the reality is that for the size of city that Regina is, it has a lot of amenities and conveniences. The winters are cold, but one has to move a pretty far distance to cure that problem.

(By the way, Saskatoon didn't have much more for international flights than Regina did. Saskatoon still had a flight a day to MSP on Delta. Otherwise, international service was about the same. Domestic service was pretty similar, too, with Saskatoon getting slightly larger aircraft on the odd route to make up for the slightly higher demand.)

Isn't this even more notably true for Saskatoon?

I enjoy what both cities have to offer. Each has their strengths and plenty of weaknesses. But, what I often find curious is the way Saskatoon is painted makes it sound as if Regina is being compared to Paris. The two have more similarities than they do differences. Neither is some bastion of uniqueness.

No kidding. I read that post and mentally face-palmed myself. As I didn't recognize pspeid's username, I did click on it only to find out that it would appear that he/she is a Winnipeg resident, posting almost exclusively on Winnipeg projects. As a Saskatonian, that does make me feel a little better.

While we often enjoy bilateral good-natured ribbing with our Regina colleagues within our company, I would classify it more as friendly competition. I don't know if I've ever heard a Saskatoon resident say that they hate Regina, though I will readily admit that we are far more likley to get into comparisons of the 2 cities than will a Reginian.

As for activity on the site, I was going to put that down to more non-construction realted bickering in the Regina thread, but I've found in recent weeks that the Saskatoon thread has been trending more in that direction as well. Similarly, I don't think our daily post count is lagging Regina's as much as it has in the past. However, this discussion won't help those figures.

I'll just say, for the record, I have several years of recently living in Regina as the basis for my opinions. I've observed first-hand the behaviors I have discussed. Other people will have different opinions, and that's fine. From my perspective there is nothing in my original statement that seems inaccurate. Reginans have never, in my experience, shown appreciation for any city other than Regina. I really wish I could say otherwise, but in my experience it just isn't so.

As for the amateur psychology as to it's cause, well, that's just my speculation of course.

It's not surprising (especially given that the city has allowed other downtown parcels to be bulldozed and turned into "temporary" parking), just disappointing. The busiest intersection in the city now being home to a parking lot ... As a city, it's embarrassing, economic downturn or not.

Yeah it's definitely disappointing considering what should actually have been there by now.

I'm slightly optimistic that they won't allow it because it's so prominent and blatantly a violation of the rules.

BUT, the city has provided a bunch of other temporary parking lots in the past, so it might just happen. BUT if the city approves this is one they don't have much argument for not allowing others who want a parking lot.

What a mess.
