I like the description of the facility in the CBC article - more than just a shelter. They're probably looking to diversify funding - adoption fees & gov't grants/service contracts can fluctuate significantly. By the same token, shifting to become a retailer and landlord is a big move, with associated risks.

Pretty low ceiling. I recall when they used to play indoor soccer at the Curlodrome on the Ex grounds. It was horrible. Low ceiling and linoleum surface.

A super dumb idea. The idea that landlords should be taxed into renting to shitty tenants is a good way to to see retail spaces disappear altogether.

Yes, cities should actively incentivize main floor retail units though tax policy or similar.

Not really. The outside of the building is pretty much finished. They are doing interior work now. Landscaping will be done in the spring or summer.

True. This is looking like a summer without pools so good time to work on it. I'm not sure how construction works with social distancing, but figure it out.

Ghost town in here lately.

Anyways, the construction of a new hotel on Parliament Ave. in Harbour Landing just west of the Co-op is well underway with a mobile crane on site.

what I feel Regina would definitely benefit from is a trendy district or neighbourhood lined with cafes and shops restaurants and bars. The city streets look like it just shuts down completely and the streets looks terribly drab... like something you'd see in a down trodden dying town. The city has way more potential than that imo.

Wasn't that what was slowly starting to develop downtown with the Fat Badger, Vics, the Capitol, Beer Bros, etc?

Yes, indeed.

If you count all the restaurants on Scarth, 11th, Hamilton, and Victoria it is/was pretty much there already. There's about or were about 14 restaurants and three coffee shops not named Tim Hortons in that area alone.
