be careful and stay safe regardless of the fate you're tempting.

It was COLD. I had to take a tea break just 5km into my 18km ride and thought it was going to be one long ride. Thankfully that tea warmed me and particularily my hands up enough that I was able to get to work with no further warm up breaks.

I hated the extra transfer more than anything. Roads were good. Motorcycling keeps me alive mentally. One huge reason we're moving back to B.C. in 5 days. Hopefully nothing stops that.

The COE better put a requirement to work a full 12 month calendar on the WLRT through the Downtown at minimum.

We will be asking for major intersections to be done within 30 days and that anything from 109st-103st be done in one construction year... other than stations and landscaping to ensure that we don't see laydown areas or awaiting 3-4yrs for other sections.

Agree. High pedestrian/cycling stretches to be completed first to minimize overall disruptions.

I bet if the Valley line was being built in a conventional design-build, not DBFO model, the City would have had much more control over the construction schedule, materials quality, and work locations.

they may have had "more control" but that in and of itself doesn't guarantee better performance or better results...

You can write whatever you want into the original contract for the contractor to follow. The COE can follow the same model and have different execution requirements, material requirements, etc negotiated into the deal.

West LRT Update - Construction start is 2021:

There continues to be a lot of activity and interest in the Valley Line West. Our project is in procurement, and we recently shortlisted three teams to participate in the Request for Proposals (RFP) stage of procurement for the contract to design, build and partially finance the 14-kilometre extension from Downtown to Lewis Farms in west Edmonton.

The shortlisted teams are:

Aecon | Dragados Valley Line West Joint Venture (VLWJV)
Marigold Infrastructure Partners
urbanTransitT
The procurement process launched on Jan. 7, with the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) phase. The RFQ phase required each team to demonstrate how their experience and expertise could successfully deliver the project. The City selected these teams after carefully reviewing and evaluating their submissions based on rigorous criteria.

The remainder of the year will be a busy one. We are continuing our procurement process using videoconferencing technology and electronic document management systems, for the safety of everyone involved. During initial meetings the teams were very engaged and positive about the project and the procurement process. They will work with the City to develop their technical and financial submissions, which the City will review and evaluate before selecting the successful team.

City of Edmonton release

It's just crazy that in the 21 months I've been in Edmonton, there hasn't been a great deal of progress. Downtown Edmonton street crossings complete, elevated guideway mostly complete, and the storage and maintenance facility. But other than that much of downtown Edmonton has been ripped up for forever as with much of the alignment all the way to Millwoods. They need to make it a hard goal to pour all concrete by the end of the year.

A lot of progress the last couple of weeks. much of downtown track bed is poured. The section from 97 east to the tunnel is back filled and it appears they are getting the sub base ready for the track base. Winspear section is being worked on again. great sections along the whole length now tarped over. Bridge is about 1/2 way across now.

Looks like they are getting ready for another set of cables.

The Churchill surface platforms are formed and will be getting concrete this week.

At what temperature can they stop tarping over the concrete? It must be getting close this week since we are getting back to near-seasonal daily highs.

^^ How about west of 101 St? I often use the pedway between Manulife Place and ECC mall (though barely since last month), and I've seen so little progress in the past couple of years.
