+ needlessly building in it in a park when there are tons of vacancies downtown & endless lots to build on? Cool.

This is the biggest red flag for me, among a few others, but the one that stands out as obviously sketchy and possibly corrupt.

Was a valuation of the land part of the application process? Does anyone know the value of the land they are leasing for $1 a year?

There's no need to do that because it was irrelevant to those approving it.

Conexus got a below market value for the land too. The government doesn't care.

No that does not concern me. I'm for the CNIB getting a new building and this would not occur other wise. And the best place for CNIB is in the park. As it's the most inviting place for a blind person as compared to a suburb or downtown office.

CNIB has been downtown for years now and I've yet to hear a single complaint.

You are, simply put, a Sask Party shill. This level of corruption only benefits Brandt and is not welcome in the developed world.

That makes no sense whatsoever.

lol hurt much? What does that make you, would love to here another one of your personal opinions completely unrelated to construction. I for one think Brandt is a great company and good on them for sticking it out.

Blind people walking in and around downtown vs blind people walking in and around Wascana park. Makes sense if you ask me, as to why its in the park.

I'm hurt that people are supporting a private company being gifted millions of dollars of public land for $1.

You have a very negative and patronizing view of blind people.

I would call it compassionate. I have a disability and if you think its okay to not recognize that and accommodate it, than that's your opinion and for that I feel sorry fo you

If it was really about doing the best for CNIB, then CNIB would be getting ground floor access. Brandt plans to put them on the second floor. Brandt is just using CNIB as a means to get land they otherwise could not get.

I honestly can't understand why CNIB continues to associate with this project - they must be in terrible financial shape, and desperate.
Best case, opinions about them don't change (I don't know anyone who views them more positively as a result of being associated with this project).
Common case? a negative taste in the mouth.
Worst case? negative taste, followed through with action (cutting support, etc).

Their brand is & associated goodwill is the single biggest asset most charities have. Most will go to extremes to protect their reputation, and distance themselves from controversy. Given that CNIB Sask only has an 'advisory board' (i.e. they're not incorporated independently from National), I wonder if National just doesn't get the negative impact this is having on the brand.

I think they realize that they're potentially getting a very good deal and since 99%+ of the public will never deal with them, it'll eventually die down.

If (and yes, it's still a very big if) the building gets built nobody will think about the CNIB again.

Yeah - makes sense. I barely thought about them before this, and was unlikely to ever be a supporter (not for a particular reason - might toss a one-time donation their way if specifically asked)... so, I'm not their audience.

But, if they expanded an appeal, I'm unlikely to support them now (where I might've supported them in the past). For context, I have vision issues, and was actually declared legally blind in one eye (as it happens, by someone who is on their Advisory Board) prior to corrective surgery.

I'm also a stubborn SoB, and a Wascana Centre purist - I'll declare my biases here & now

No one said anything about there being issues with CNIB getting a new building. The issue is with BRANDT getting a building for $1 a year. This isn't a not for profit that helps blind people. It is a company that makes money, and will make even more money of tax payer owned land.

I had a blind friend (sadly passed) who chose to live downtown. Easy access to buses, and she was confident enough with either cane or guide dog to get around. She strongly preferred living downtown and partaking of businesses in the downtown area. It was a lot simpler for her.

I don't know how representative this is, but it's the one situation I know.

There's always a grocery store when they talk about redevelopment. Is there actually a planned store or is this just a suggestion of retail? I don't know the area well enough to think where the closest grocer is. And traffic is always the worry.
