I don't know if this belongs here or in the old mall thread, but there's a new drone video on the highlandatx Instagram page. They're making good progress on this phase. The Jacob Fontaine plaza area should be pretty nice when it's done.

It seemed like we agreed that Domain/Broadmoor and North Austin should be split into two threads but the mods never did it.

Here is the time-lapse photos for DTII and Bowen, use the Bowen option vs DTII. They should be the same but the DTII was not working. There is also a time-lapse for DTI and Flatirons.

The camera used for DTII/Bowen is on top of Domain Place.

Cool. I added the link to the webcam post in the stick thread.

I would argue that Highland is Central Austin and North Austin starts at 183.

I think most people would disagree with you. Including atxsnail apparently since they posted about Highland here.

I grew up and Gracy Woods and Highland was always the mall of North Austin.

Now, if you had used 290/Koenig as a dividing line, then you might have an argument.

Or maybe he just posted here because there is no "Central Austin" thread.

Eh, things change. Go back far enough, and Koenig isn't even in Austin limits, Hyde Park is "North Austin".

FWIW, looks like the city's most recent descriptors (that they're using for the LDC analysis) places Highland in "Central" and NBG in "North Central"

There is a separate thread for the Highland Mall redevelopment. So that's a good place for development related to the old mall site.

I mean, I'd never disagree with calling it "North Central" but it's definitely north. Especially when taking into account that there's a whole area of Austin (South Austin) where they would consider the dividing line between north and south to be much further south. Austin is growing that way, too.

I found out why Domain Towers 3 and 4 are in the waiting on legal state.

It has to do with the drainage pond. The pond is not large enough to support all the developement according to COA. Stonelake has a South Domain update plan as noted here which also includes the road extension to Burnet:

https://abc.austintexas.gov/public-s...rtyrsn=5671031

Once that is approved the plans for DT3/4 are complete.

There was an Austin Monitor reporter who referred to the Ben Hur Shrine Center near Anderson Ln as being in "Northwest Austin". While I guess that's technically correct, I don't think I'd ever call it that. North or North Central works for me.

It's not very interesting, but I brought it up b/c we're talking about it

Early voting numbers up… No one can accuse Travis County of suffering from a lack of civic enthusiasm; at least, that’s what the early voting numbers suggest. Early voting continued at a brisk pace through Saturday, with 37,814 Travis County voters casting ballots ahead of the March 3 primary. According to figures released by Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir, more than 2,000 voters had voted at the Randalls stores located at Research and Braker Lane, at South MoPac and William Cannon, and at Brodie and Slaughter. More than 2,000 voters also cast ballots through Saturday at the Ben Hur Shrine Center in Northwest Austin. Voters are also showing up at the polls in large numbers in the Houston area and in other large Texas cities as well, determined to beat the election day crowds.

Here is an interesting picture. This is a picture of the primary entrance for IBM employees. There is NO more surface parking except a few spots for handicap/visitors.

This is the entrance from the parking garage to a side door to 045. Not very safe, does not show the equipment swinging around digging the holes as people walk by and the side walk will soon be torn up to connect to the South Side where DT3 will be located.

The Jiffy Lube on Anderson Ln filed a permit for a temporary driveway due to construction of the coming apartment building at the Chase Bank on 2711 Anderson Ln. This project seems to be moving along

I heard from a development company rep, that the old Dallas Night Club Site (7113 Burnet Rd) is going to be redeveloped. He told me, they will be building apartments/condos; the building fronting Burnet will be six stories tapering down to three stories as it approaches the neighborhood (I think he said somewhere around 330 units). The current plans call for all underground parking, however that might change.
Interestingly enough, they approached the owner of the vacant lot next door and they was not willing to sell. (Not sure it was a price issue, or just plain lack of interest.)

That's great news. That stretch and all the vacant used auto lots need to find new life (my dream is for that Mazda dealership to move further out). I've also heard from reliable sources that an announcement about a Northcross redevelopment is imminent.

Slightly disappointing that it's the Local Post going away first, instead of the car dealerships. It's okay, not great, but it at least adds to the neighborhood.

Edit: it also looks like they're proposing just MF-6, not mixed use in any way. Which is also disappointing.

Don't tease

Any details? The Wal-Mart, or the other surroundings?

From what I heard, the whole plot is up for redevelopment. Everything's getting torn down for something new, but I don't have details beyond that, other than that it is mixed use/multi-story. Contracts are drawn up for new ownership and should be executed soon-ish. When I know more I'm happy to divulge.
