That would make for good retail frontage.
It appears that's owned by DeeCorp. That's the company who haven't yet done anything with their Granville and Davie property. There wouldn't be anything to prevent them combining the site with the Paul Y site, or selling, but there are no requirements to combine them. I think the site sold a few years ago, so Paul Y missed the chance to buy it then.

I didn't get a sense of... "relatively soon" when a Client of ours was talking to them about it however. Though...

Deecorp's lot assembly here still in process. Rentals / office / hotel. Not high on the development list. Downtown office building coming 1st.

Thanks.
They own a couple of premier retail locations (Robson/Thurlow Red Robin and Granville/Pender Rexall.
PS - Did you see the weird typo in their write-up?

Friend of mine mentioned that the Century Plaza Hotel on Burrard will be demolished and replaced with 2 towers.
Nothing crazy tall.
The one fronting Burrard will be about 30 storeys.

The property was previously on the market a year or so ago and the redevelopment idea was being floated, but I didn't hear about a sale. If it did sell it would've been quite recently. (the existing hotel owners wouldn't be redeveloping on their own - maybe a partnership?)

Hmm, most of what you've said here is true, from what I know, but not all of it.

That would be a shame as I like how the current tower looks like (adds variety) and is already around 30 floors. Seems pointless to replace with something like that.

Interesting to have such a proposal here, seems very un-vancouver like

Actually, in the CF Pacific Center thread when people were speculating where the Thurlow site Four Seasons and Mandarin Oriental were eyeing, the reason why I asked if the Fortis tower were to be redeveloped in the future if there were any view cone restrictions is because the major hotel portion of this project has also been axed; only the boutique hotel remains. I believe FS and Holborn have been in talks for a while and they ended up deciding that location isn't what they want and want to be closer to the Alberni core. Fortis lot remains a good candidate.

or is the thurlow site the very Foster-esque tall tower in the render with the cheesegrater diagrid? There's been another Foster building in the works for many years now

okay so MAD's proposal was only a competition entry for Holborn's RFQ

quote from an ex-designer from MAD:

Quote:
"MAD Architects - Concept Designs
As a junior architect, part of concept design team for a number of international competitions and commissions, including the Perth Elizabeth Quay competition, a mixed-use tower competition in Vancouver, the Aiyue concert hall in Beijing, a mixed-use tower competition in downtown Los Angeles, a rapid transit design, and a private house in Russia. This page will be updated after these projects are published in press release."

Personally, this ARC Bay Parkade project is interesting, if rather overdone. While perhaps impressive, the tower roof has an "organic" look to it that renders the building - IMO - strange.
The rippled top combined with the geodesic view window smacks of a sea lamprey eel with a sucker and rows of ugly rings of triangular teeth. A straight angular cut would be better.
So might a more elegant, less wavy tower. As I said, it is just a bit too strange. While this may be a laudable attempt to be daring, it somehow misses the mark. But tweaked, why not.

Thanks for posting.
It looks old, but I haven't seen it before either.
There's no office space included, which also suggests its an old proposal given the current office demand. It also says department store - if that's still alive, maybe Simons?
WRT Four Seasons, would it be that old, as FS problems started only a couple years ago.
Makes sense if FS and Holborn have been in discussions wrt Bay Parkade that attention could turn to Holborn's FortisBC Tower. That would be luxury hotel row.

Good to hear about the office space - that'll feed the retail with customers.

Big oversight in this design - the big circular driveway is directly over where a SkyTrain entrance to Granville station should be, as the ticketing hall is right there under Seymour St.. - unless that's a pedestrian plaza and a round stationhouse roof (together with underground connections). The drawing is labelled "unbuilt" .
