I wish WS would just get on and join Skyteam. Delta are by far the most solid carrier in states and KL/AF have a very strong partnership in Europe, it would be great competition across the board in Canada to AC/LH.

There is no plan for WS to join SkyTeam. Both WS and DL don't want WS in SkyTeam.

WS is slated top bring reciprocal frequent flyer program benefits between WS Rewards and DL SkyMiles as part of the JV rollout.

After WS completes the DL JV and reciprocity, they are slated to do something with AF/KL Group. After that maybe KE. That is the extent that WS will do reciprocity.

In support of my earlier tweet, the guy that had been developing Alliance strategy at WestJet just jumped over to AA.

Quote:
FORT WORTH, Texas — American Airlines announced today that Brian Znotins has been named Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning. In this role, Znotins will guide the development and implementation of American’s global network and hub strategy, including all route planning, slot management and long-range planning efforts. Znotins will report to Vasu Raja, American’s Senior Vice President of Network Strategy.

“Brian is one of the leading network planners in the world,” Raja said. “His ability to manage and maximize complex networks at scale as well as motivate his team makes him incredibly well-suited to thrive at American. We look forward to what he and the team will accomplish over the coming years.”

Znotins joins American from WestJet, where he spent the past three years as the airline’s Vice President of Network, Alliances and Corporate Development. During his time there, Znotins led a redesign of three critical hubs, drove schedule quality improvement, designed a Canada-U.S. joint venture and introduced a new strategy to reach the premium traveler market.

WestJet has been an place for displaced American airline management to work through their non-compete agreements since the very beginning. They're always coming and going I wouldn't read anything into it.

Is Westjet’s YYC-YQB coming back this summer?

Charlottetown is a great destination and more people need to see PEI, but these times aren't exactly vacation-friendly.

Any word if MEX is coming back as summer seasonal with AeroMexico?

I’m planning work travel there in June — and I don’t see any non-stop options available (at least not yet).

I also don't like redeyes and consider them not family friendly, but the new YYG flight similar to the summer-seasonal YVR-YHZ, which is also a redeye. Maximizes aircraft utilization I guess!

It also allows for connections from other points west/north/south of YYC. Also it reduces the need for one night of hotel, if one and one’s family can sleep on a plane.

I'd say it doesn't look promising for two reasons:

1) last year they announced the new service in December 2018 for the seasonal service to start in May 2019
2) they recently increased YVR-MEX flying next summer

Both of the above indicate that if AM intends to do the seasonal YYC-MEX they would have loaded the flights by now.

Damn.

In just a couple of years, MEX went from a “permanent” year-round route on two airlines ... to a summer seasonal on one airline ... to nothing.

That’s a loss for YYC. Disappointing.

Also, I've been seeing plans based around the rockies to more than double tourism and tourism revenues from $8.9 Billion to $20 Billion by 2030. Do y'all think this could result in higher PAX traffics through YYC and YEG?

Looks like AC cancellations extending into April:
YYC-LAX reduces from 2x daily to 1x daily.
YYC-SFO reduces from 2x daily to 1x daily.

YYC-LHR got swapped from the 333 to 788 in April as well.

The article seems to specifically say they're trying to look elsewhere than the Rockies to grow tourism?

Quote:
“We’re interested in creating tourist opportunities in brand-new areas, areas that don’t have a lot of environmental pressure on them — whether it’s the Badlands or rural areas or Indigenous areas or the North,” Fir said. “Areas that can welcome guests because they’ve never been tourist destinations before.”

I’m reposting this from the Canadian Aviation thread:

Hi everyone. The Time Air Society of Lethbridge are trying to save one of the F-28s at YXE that have been parked there for over 15 years.

They are about $3,250 shy of their goal, but only have until the end of January to succeed (otherwise it will join all the other YXE F-28s and head off to the scrapper). If you can donate even as little as $20, it would go a long way to preserving a piece of Canadian (and Dutch) aviation history.

Here’s the link to their GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/saving-cftav-fokker-f281000-sn11106

Even if you can’t afford to donate, spread the word.
