LOL....I just had a trailer for a movie called "Field of Weeds" go through my head. "If you (bull)doze it....they will come....and better yet, all those poor people will simply go away"

On Google maps there is a tent set up close to the boat launch. Seems like a nice place to live.

Yeah let's just leave a bunch of derelict houses and a toxic waste site in a location with a ton of potential as is, that does the city a lot of good!

It could easily be turned into Kangaroo Point. Invoke best use property tax laws and expropriate all the land. Then clean it up and rebuild.

The conversion of Gateway into a Brickworks style of park (evergreen.ca) would change everything. When one considers what is spent on underpasses I would suggest for a few million dollars the site could be acquired. Lock in the contaminated hydrocarbons under ground and one would save on the extensive remediation.

Cut off the vehicular through traffic over Louis bridge except for transit and I would suggest private interests and enterprise would transform the area as has been seen on Waterfront in 10 years.

These endless government studies and consultant reviews go on and on for ever...

Also we need to stop allowing big trucks to turn left off Higgins onto Waterfront. They should be going right to Main.

when it was the boxcar load our for the flower mill that burnt down hence the big open plots of land there the little 1 story 50's building was the offices now a cultural center.

Does anyone know if Point Douglas is included under the Centreventure umbrella? It would seem that the area would benefit from some sort of unified redevelopment vision that would actively work to attract investment. Or are we suffering from "development corporation" overkill?

In my opinion we need to focus. Trying to revitalize the entire downtown is nearly impossible as is. Downtown area is large for the size of Winnipeg. The SHED was supposed to be an effort to focus on area, which has sort of worked but not really.

^ Good point. I would not consider PD to be downtown... even though it's close, it falls outside the formal downtown boundaries and it is functionally a separate neighbourhood too, much like Osborne Village. It would be wise not to spread the downtown development agencies too thinly... our downtown is big enough as it is.

Just buy gateway for starters...

The LAST thing the area needs is another development corporation! Let the government focus on the required infrastructure.

We are still waiting on a concrete action plan for the Alexander docks...

Kangaroo Point is an amazing neighbourhood. Been there a few times myself. Winnipeg is likely the only Canadian city with the same type of riverside geographical location to emulate such an area. I would love to see it!

Although it can be dangerous, Central Park is one of the most diverse and vibrant communities in Winnipeg imo.
