No one at that level would reveal their reasons publicly - and as the letter shows, he did not list any reason at all. All roles like his at AHS or the University are five year appointments and generally get one re-appointment to total 10 years. Highly unusual for someone in that role to resign 2/3rds through the first term, and particularly when such exciting developments are happening in the area. Like I said, rumours yesterday had it that this all came about after a meeting with Alberta Health. Even if that is true, no specific idea about what would have irked him so much, but we do know the government has changed, and while they can't pull back on capital, they can withhold operating / recruiting costs and tell the lead that he'll be head of a building that the UCP will keep 50% vacant for two decades. My view is that this type of discussion is highly likely, given the very rare resignation.
This type of reality is only going to get more common within healthcare and education. Rumour has it that the CBE sent out an update to teachers last week detailing number of hires, number of subs, etc. and therein stated that are low on subs by a couple hundred, but are resisting what would already be a trigger to hire because of constraints coming down the pipe from the UCP government. People who otherwise would have been offered jobs so at to pull them off of unemployment are being left without work as a result.
