Who is the head of oncology anyway? If we have a name we can do a quick search, I'm sure.

Where are you reading that the centre will open in 2025?
FMC's website should list who's the head of oncology.

As for the Cancer Center's opening date, way back (2015 or 2016) before they started actually building it they were shooting for 2023 and then some sources said 2024. I think I heard 2024 or 2025 on the radio earlier this year. The building will probably be done by the end of 2023 but that doesn't mean they'll be ready to go at that point. They should but that's not how it ever turns out. I imagine they need to start recruiting more staff and doctors well before then. If there's no plan in place by the last part of 2022 or early 2023 then 2025 might be right.

He's definitely the guy. He posted his good-bye letter to his colleagues on Twitter today. Based on the comments this doesn't sound political at all. He must have been offered a great deal elsewhere and took it. Based on how these things work that would have happened way before the election was even called.

No one at that level would reveal their reasons publicly - and as the letter shows, he did not list any reason at all. All roles like his at AHS or the University are five year appointments and generally get one re-appointment to total 10 years. Highly unusual for someone in that role to resign 2/3rds through the first term, and particularly when such exciting developments are happening in the area. Like I said, rumours yesterday had it that this all came about after a meeting with Alberta Health. Even if that is true, no specific idea about what would have irked him so much, but we do know the government has changed, and while they can't pull back on capital, they can withhold operating / recruiting costs and tell the lead that he'll be head of a building that the UCP will keep 50% vacant for two decades. My view is that this type of discussion is highly likely, given the very rare resignation.

This type of reality is only going to get more common within healthcare and education. Rumour has it that the CBE sent out an update to teachers last week detailing number of hires, number of subs, etc. and therein stated that are low on subs by a couple hundred, but are resisting what would already be a trigger to hire because of constraints coming down the pipe from the UCP government. People who otherwise would have been offered jobs so at to pull them off of unemployment are being left without work as a result.

Thanks Doug. I didn't know it was the 26th thread - that's amazing.

I'm sure you understand that a pinch of economics and/or politics might on occasion slip in here, because policy decisions and economic reality impacts construction as we look forward.

Regarding the residential real estate market, my take on the latest CREB report is "modestly positive" for both residential and condo markets, where it seems things are moving closer to balance. In addition to the job market, the big driver for this is net migration, which turned the corner last year in 2018 after a horrendous 2016 and flat 2017. Further, given fixed interest rates are spectacular (3-5 year terms be had for under 3% fixed!) suggests that we may see an uptick in the market, and thus over the next 12 months see an increase in residential starts and infill construction.
https://www.creb.com/News_Centre/Media_Releases/2019/May/April_monthly_stats/

Are there specific statistics on infill construction? I'd love to see a map detailing infill density, or even stats on an area by area basis.

The other thing I'd be interested in seeing is a value of (residential) land per 1000sf on an area by area basis - or something of the sort.

Irrespective of where he is going, reality is the political landscape seems to have impacted his decision. Do you have anything to suggest otherwise?

Do you have any proof that politics played a role at all? He was offered a great deal and took it. If his decision to leave was influenced by politics that would have been leaked by now.

How about answering the question?

And stop making up things like "got a great deal" - this is made up.

Stop spreading your political manure and stick to facts. You don't know why he left anymore than anyone else does. The most likely scenario is that he took a better offer down in the U.S. like so many others in the medical profession have been doing.

He just did. To be honest, I found his last post a lot more interesting than your posts.

And he is moving to the Washington DC area, into a much worse political environment than Alberta or Canada.
