The diagram is, as I said, the original design. It shows the blue/white of the original proposal, not the blue/black of the updated proposal and what has subsequently built. It also shows the original sweeping awning over the platform of First Street Station, a feature which was removed. It also doesn't show the protruding boxes on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors on the corner of Centre and 7th. The diagram would be significantly different if these issues were rectified, as white and black are opposites, of course.

How is this rendering white? Koops' rendering is white. This looks really dark by comparison. I'm not denying that it could be the white version but, the rendering through resizing or whatever is indistinguishable in colour to the latest version. Most people wouldn't see the changes at ground level either. There are many worse renderings in need of better ones. This is not a case of black being the opposite of white.

Yeah, I suppose you're right. Though I do think the black could be more noticeable. Basically Koops' diagram of it, with the white as black and the protruding boxes added and voila.

Seriously, this has to be one of the most challenging drawings to make, with the extreme detail work, and every floor is different too.

Oh I didn’t realize. Sorry man, I know I’m literally garbage at using sketchup and all of the diagrams I’ve ever added to the database have been through MS paint, so I shouldn’t be complaining.

No. Not really.

It's been a few years since I've heard it which is probably a good thing. Leaky condo syndrome hit Calgary pretty hard too. Telus should be safe from burning to the ground.

Toronto isn't much better. Architects designing flat roof surrounded by parapet walls with 3 inch metal scuppers to handle the drainage during freeze thaw winters. End result is a lake that will find its way in. Usually the access door to the rooftop patio.

Really? That's news to me.

Calgary gets so little precipitation, especially when you factor out the dry snow, that I'm surprised that was an issue there.

Toronto does not surprise me, it gets a lot more rain than most realize.

Similar thing here... just very little press on it.

We have one developer who has had ~dozen projects have to do complete envelope replacement after 3-5yrs.

^ Seems strange to me that the balconies would protrude slightly like that. Looks... untidy (to me.) A design like this needed to really concentrate on clean, simple lines. These balconies (among other problems) really distract from that.

I really like Telus Sky but I have to confess that I'm surprised they decided to continue with the project to begin with. It started construction well after the oil boom had bust which sent the office vacancy rates soaring and the leases plunging.

It did not start well after the oil boom had ended. They were already at the bottom of the excavation (22 meters, at the time Canada's 2nd deepest excavation ever, maybe still?) in early October 2015, Usually when demolishing a (relatively) historically significant building, plus having several hundred thousand square feet of your new office space pre-leased, plus all of your residential units being rentals, you're gonna go through with it. Also, excavation started in January 2015, three months isn't "well after". We got lucky, but not unnaturally lucky, considering it's Calgary.

We get pretty severe thunderstorms though, the amount of rain that can fall in a 10 - 15 minute stretch will easily expose any weakness. We rarely get more than a day or two of steady rain though, things can dry out quickly here as a result.
