Not a good look for Brandt. It is nice to see some accountability (or at least the illusion of it) for society's most powerful. Curious to see how this ends up

Personally, I would prefer the project not move forward at all, and the land be returned to green space or some form of pedestrian area. Having said that, I would be okay with it moving forward under two different scenarios:

Replacement building is constructed for CNIB to meet their current needs, with no other tenants
New building is constructed for CNIB + other charities. Brandt could have their own office space as well, but not rent to others. Building would have new land lease with market rates (basically extra vertical space for Brandt only).

I would oppose the project under any other conditions. I do not think that a private company should be making obscene profits off of free land simply because they are giving away <10% of their building to a single non-profit. If >50% of the building was for non-profit/charitable/educational use and Brandt simply had a few offices on the top floor, then I wouldn't be as opposed. But there should be no profit motive.

I want Brandt to build their office building somewhere downtown. In the sprawling endless amount of available lots currently containing parking.

Agreed. I'm not quite as against Wascana construction as most people in this thread, but it is clear what Brandt is trying to do. They had their chance to get a space in Wascana (somewhat fair and square) and they tried to cheat the system with the arrangement. At this point they can spend a couple million for land downtown and be happy about it. Play with fire and you're going to get burnt. Here's hoping the project gets shut down after the investigation.

Possibly a rammed earth wall I see? if so, awesome. But not sure how I feel about those curved column supports beneath the glass roof. Reminds me of some post-modern eclecticism. Would have rather seen them straight at an angle.

CNIB would LOVE to do that original plan for their building. That was option #1 and the best case scenario. Reality: No one would step up to the plate to make it happen. And this was during the boom years in Regina where the economy was hot and jobs were plentiful (2011-2015). If no one would donate money then, I think in today's economy the chances of that happening are minuscule.

Not to say the Brandt plan is a good one, because it's not. But it's a situation that people have been forced into to get what they need.

Thanks people! Yes, after reading the LP article, I agree the current location is smallish. This new build would probably seem like The Butchart Gardens compared to the current one. I hope they get the necessary funding in place in a timely manner. A project this scale looks like it could become expensive, esp. if they need to build to public-use specs, and proceed (start) years into the future.

Just noticed the NW corner of Hamilton and 14th is cleared. Assuming there will be a small commercial property being built? Unless the parking lot on Hamilton to the North will also be cleared.

Kind of like the bikes holding me up in traffic.

I'm all for dedicated bike lanes if it means less car-bike interactions in busy areas.

More likely to mean less car lanes. Some of the bike lanes that have been implemented seem little used. Hopefully more thoughts go into it going forward. Separate paths are the best and safest, but obviously that is not always practice.

I seem to recall that derelict property was supposed to be torn down a couple of years ago in conjunction with a rezoning application. I can't recall what the plans were. I'm wondering if the property owner was forced to remove the structure for safety and liability reasons.

The Alt Hotel is also open now and digging is happening on the 3rd tower.

For me, jealous is not the correct term. I am envious, but very happy for our sister city that they have such a wonderful, great looking project. Congratulations, Saskatoon! Hopefully, someday, the economy in Regina improves and some developer(s) take an interest in building a project of equal or greater significance (and I hope to hell that it is not Harvard).
