I guess the utilitarian look is in. Look at what the feds did to the ex-Scotiabank glass building. (Ex-Midtown Centre.)

While it's not great, I don't feel the same loathing some of you seem to have.

As for ugliest building, this is nowhere near the catastrophe that is Renaissance in the background there..

As ugly as Renaissance is, at least there is some character. I'd rather have something unique that misses the target rather than something so bland.

In this case, character is a bad thing.

Garish, oddly-placed colours; off-centre and weird mix-of-shape windows, unnecessary columns/pediment, the new concrete wall on 11th.... Renaissance has almost no redeeming features.

It's like if you had a choice between a meth dealer and a staid accountant as a roommate and you went with the meth dealer because he's not as boring.

“A land lease arrangement has yet to be made, but the going rate appears to be about a dollar a year.”

I would absolutely join the protest if come the time for the lease agreement and the government dares to ask for more than what Brandt is being charged to lease their land.

Because Brandt is getting in on a building that will be charged $1 a year leasing from the government in turn charging other tenants (taking up the rest of the building) at market level rates. Brandt is definitely getting a $1 a year lease. And “Wayne” is referencing Wayne Mantyka, the reporter linked in the video who has been with CTV news Regina since 1975.

In case you needed more clarification, pappcam:

“CNIB's 1955 building needed replacing and it has a long term lease on this prime park land.

Starting in 2014, Brandt came along and offered to donate 4,000 square feet of office space to CNIB provided Brandt was allowed to build a 77,000 square foot building on this site. In an email to CBC, CNIB said this was good for the organization because "funds previously dedicated to rent, property management and other associated expenses will be able to be reinvested towards delivering more services."

The rest of the space, in excess of 70,000 square feet, Brandt will lease out at market rates.“

Nice proposal for the Floral Conservatory! We made use of the current one (Ross Ave. near Broad St.) last Fall taking family pictures for our Christmas postcard. If the new one gets built, we'll be sure to go and do more of the same! Was the location of this new Conservatory already mentioned? (If it was, I missed it, and it's probably quicker to learn its location if one of you might know already! Thanks!)

Yep, think sort of between the arboretum and Wascana Rehab, but closer to the lake than 23rd Avenue.

Parking is already becoming a big issue in Wascana Park. Where will everyone park that will be working in the 3 developments? Surely we are not going to let Conexsus and Brandt employees park for free in the park when Regina has so many wonderful paid parking lots downtown? Sarcasm aside, seriously, where will the influx of employees be parking in an area already short of parking spaces. (no I am not wanting more park consumed for that purpose)

It's a valid point. It will also increase traffic as well. I would have thought the old tree nursery area off of Wascana Parkway and 23rd might have been a better location for the floral conservatory from an access and leaving the park less busy from fa traffic standpoint, while still being connected to the park with the footpath along old Broard Street.

This is actually is not true. With the reductions in CBC and Co-operators parking, there is quite a lot available. The public mostly uses it evenings and weekends. I believe most of the parking is owned by the University. Conexus' website says: No new surface parking lots will be created for this building and Conexus will be renting parking spots from the University’s existing parking, which will be available for the public to use outside business hours on evening and weekends. Conexus of course will also have underground parking.
