Those who like Dubai tend to be the less cultured type who get excited about money. To each his own I guess. Myself, I tend to appreciate things that have a little more depth than city that doubles as an overblown Disney world.

The running joke in Dubai is ‘what’s the difference between Yogurt and Dubai? Yogurt has culture’
Yeah it’s devoid of culture. It’s interesting in the way Las Vegas is interesting. Exciting for two or three days and then it’s the most boring place on the planet.

The people who like Dubai are the folks who would like Las Vegas and don't understand urban culture, or culture in general. They can easily be amused by neon lights and exotic cars. You can actually find better culture in Saudi - a place normally considered devoid of culture.

Amazing to see how many Calgarians are enamored by Dubai or by Dubai hating. Just can't resist, can you?

Gain some control - its starting to look like the "Nadia incident".

It’s not a Calgarian thing, everybody hates Dubai. Various reasons, but even the people who don’t hate the place acknowledge that it’s devoid of culture and soul.

I’m just happy to finally see different conversation not based on repetitive thank yous on panos and mansion pics.
Speak for yourself, I like those pics.

I'd say the majority love the pics especially the mansion ones. People are free to post other pics and they would be appreciated as well. Daemon has limitations in terms of transportation and being young he's probably not flush with cash. Maybe Suburbia could buy him a "real" camera and a car so he can cover the entire city when he's not busy with school.

Speak for the 'majority' all you want. I just sent a PM to Daemon asking him to keep posting what he's posting. I like his panos.

I don’t care as much about the panos, but I like those mansion pics. I hope we keep getting them.

People can say what they want about Dubai, but at least it's clean, and has a super low crime rate, and you won't find this walking around Dubai ->
.
this is from the Beltline.

I've provided numerous details previously so will not again, but suffice to say it is a major upgrade for the city and for Stampede Park.
Nobody cares about Calgary construction related news in the Calgary construction forum. Especially 5 day old news.

Stick to mansions and off topic please.

People ridiculed me when I used to tell them to watch their step when walking in the Beltline. Looks like I get the last laugh.

I actually agree with all of that, having visited for three nights a few years ago. I really did not like the place and would not live there. BUT, I don't get why so much attention being paid to it here on the Calgary construction forum.

I will say though, that while many of the buildings are a matter of taste and don't come across well to us westerners, there are some spectacular examples that frankly, Calgarians would love were they in Calgary. Those good things do also get lost in the "full-on hate riot" that we see on forums such as this.
