Perfect description. I've been through Dubai a few times, never for very long, but each time I've been it's become less appealing. Dubai's nice when you visit it once and for a short period of time, which is the case for most people.
With most cities you discover its gems the more you stick around, with Dubai it's the opposite. You discover the place is northing more than a large theme park, and it quickly gets old.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon there (mainly because I was working in Saudi at the time) and it was a good place to have the honeymoon, as it is almost like being at a resort. The first couple of days were good, but by the third day, it was like 'wow there's nothing here at all'.

The people who like Dubai are the folks who would like Las Vegas and don't understand urban culture, or culture in general. They can easily be amused by neon lights and exotic cars. You can actually find better culture in Saudi - a place normally considered devoid of culture.

That article is bang on. It’s worth a 1 or 2 day visit just to cross it off the list, but at the end if the day it’s just a large theme park type city with no culture.

I've never been to Dubai, but I've never heard anything positive about Dubai's culture. The only thing you hear about are either:

a) the biggest, tallest, loudest, most expensive, well...anything you can add an 'est' suffix to.

b) there is zero culture

I can see why the average Disneyland type tourist would like it.

I have no problem admiring the riches and excesses of Dubai, if the so-called enlightened people can’t get interested in Ferraris and Lamborghinis they aren’t very enlightened.

Excited the BMO expansion is back on radar. It would have been a centre piece had the Olympics moved forward, but is a solid project no matter how you cut it.

I like Ferraris and Lambos as much as the next guy, but don’t need to go to an oversized theme to see them. For your information, they sell them here in Calgary.
