Yea...these renderings do a poor job of showing this building, I didn't see the protruding crap before. Looks rather underwhelming, except for the twins just west on the site. This will have some difficulties with servicing the towers and tower separation in council, amongst other things. The design will be revised....which is fine, but personally i'd rather see nothing happen on the site, atleast on Yonge.

What a dog's breakfast!!!

I hope this poor man's mix-mash version of BIG/Ole Scheeren/Jean-Nouvel sees the bin, and that the developer's look to hire more visionary architects. This is a huge embarrassment. And one of the architects is on the city design review panel?! No wonder so much sub-par design is allowed in this city. SHAME!

I agree w @suburbanite on the elevated amenity block trend. It's garish - I don't mind amenities being high, but they don't have to be such eyesores. And I normally love contemporary arches in podia, but this looks like faux fancy bathroom tile, or a Shawarma joint level of design. And is that a lowered ceiling/lintel detail behind the arcade? The whole thing looks haphazardly thrown together.

And the stamped brick pavers in the square! I mean, it's probably just the texture map used, but

What is this, the early 90's in small-town Ontario? Oh no.. no no no. NOOOOOO. This isn't just the renders, this looks like too many cooks were in the kitchen and some poor sod had to pull together the renders.

I look forward to the next iteration which must surely be on its way. The materials must meet each other in a more refined way, and they need to tone it down 'a bit'. Beauty in simplicity and elegance in material quality, please.

You're basing your opinion off of a few low res renders. You can't even tell what the podium is made from. It looks like large limestone to me but again at this stage and with these renders it's way to soon to be complaining about finishes. It's obvious these are not meant to be final renders, at least not by Toronto standards. That's one thing developers do well in this city is know how to market a building with flashy images.

Looks like someone was on opium when they were making these Yorkville plans. This'll be chopped down by some degree which I'm intrigued to know of.

I wouldn't call the renders flashy, but rather messy. And I didn't just question the mish-mash of textures, but also the form itself. Although yes, it appeared to be limestone podium for one building, and grey brick for another, and glass for another, and then other types of glasses and perforated metals. The rendering quality, though poor, still tells the story that the project lacks any coherence.

The thing is just all over the place. The two sloped towers are of a completely different language than the jenga one. Too bad the mega-Yorkville project was halted - I can appreciate the common architectural language they had.

You never know... it's possible they may be morphed into 1 larger tower.

Ya thats why I said they were low res renders tough to make any real judgement yet. To comment about materials used off of those renders is a little premature.

Yorkville is mind blowing rich, its the closest thing Toronto has to the luxury and skyscraper heights of Manhattan. If all these towers get built, I can hang out in Yorkville and pretend I'm hanging out on one of NYC's gold plated streets.

Once all these proposals get built, Yorkville may rival the CBD for skyscraper density... Cumberland Square, 80 Bloor W, 33 Yorkville, 11 Yorkville, 8 Cumberland, 10 St. Mary, 55 Charles... lots more towers yet to come to the area.

Same, it was way to large scale of all the same style for my liking. The one thing I love about the Yorkville Skyline is the the lack of repetition in style for the most part.
