My guess is they are waiting until after the Civic election for a new city council/mayor and possible changes to the CAC fees. It will be back.

If the Daily Hive story is accurate, this is actually old news. The application was withdrawn in April, but the negotiations over a CAC took place over a year ago, and Hollyburn sold the property in October 2017 to another developer, who will presumably pursue a condo tower, rather than a rental. I think they still have to replace the existing rental units as non-market units as well.

I know that, but I couldn't imagine this coming to fruition with so many other restrictions in place, especially on Robson itself. It is still the first of, hopefully, many to come.

However, the bulk of West End should have increased heights, rather than only along selected intersections of shopping streets.

Correct - they sold to Landa Global. Same developers who are doing 1444 Alberni.

Yes I was going to say this happened quite a while ago.

Definitely the changing upscale nature of Alberni prompted this, the land is worth far more as a condo plan than rental.

I expect Lower Robson to end up how Lower Davie is building out.

I walked by this this afternoon. It's a shame they couldn't have built the new building on the original buildings footprint. It looks ridiculous having such a deep setback off of drake especially since everything else is built much closer to the sidewalk (other than the wall tower)

1485 Davie Street - Version 2.0 - UDP

Perhaps it is appropriate that this was the second item on the agenda of this UDP meeting, as this was also the second time the proposal has been reviewed, having been utterly rejected earlier this year. Several months after its first strike out, we attended an open house for the revised version of this project. While we recognized there were elements that could be improved, we thought it would still win UDP support, albeit with some simple recommendations. Ultimately, we were wrong.

Still, the panel acknowledged that the project had been dramatically improved, and expressed strong support for the movements and changes the applicant team had made. The consensus was the building was now a far better fit for the neighbourhood. One member even commented that it was a relief to see a Vancouver building without a podium, though others expressed they could clearly identify a podium in need of improvement.

It's interesting that in the second scheme, because the buildings are separate, they found the need to reduce the number of windows on the side of the tower facing into the block - in the event the small building is replaced by a tower in future.
That possibility would not have arisen with the previous long podium version.
... but strange how the alley side of the tower does not similarly protect from "overlook".

This is the Robsonstrasse Hotel at the southwest corner of Robson and Broughton (next to the Landmark). Did we know it was coming down? I don’t remember reading about that anywhere.

Well that sucks.

I really thought that it brought a lot of character to that street corner (had a very California feel, with the tan color, palm trees out front, and nice vertical signage...) I am sure whatever replaces it will be generic and bland.

I didn't realize that building was coming down. It's subtle but a decent looking building that gave Robson Street colour and character.

GOOD that thing is plain and ugly! Character? Why? Because it was a dumpy shit hole? But it's a matter of opinion

Where's changing city? He should have info on what's going on here I bet

Been in the works for a long time now-it was something of a scandal in the hotel business with how badly 'management' treated staff because it was all 'ending soon'.
