This is basically what we already discussed earlier this month, right? Frankly, I don't recall the height ever being 608 feet. I thought it was always to be in the 550 foot range. IF axing the hotel component makes this a more viable project, I'm okay - though this news doesn't seem to imply anything is imminent.
542 feet is nothing to sneeze at - it should still rise above the mass of 400-500 footers that dominate our skyline. Especially at Broad and Spruce.
At one point, there were elevations online showing an increase to 590', but yeah, I don't recall ever seeing anything showing 608' either.
zero reason to keep City Hall the tallest for 80 years either
Yes, that did not make a lot of sense either. However, City Hall was the actual tallest building in absolute terms and there was widespread and vocal opposition in some quarters to building something taller. And it was discussed openly. No one is talking (at all) about not building a building taller than City Hall -- which is no longer close to the tallest building in they city -- on South Broad. Also, this building would not even be visible when viewing City Hall from most vantage points.

haha Ik I don't think the revised height has anything to do with City Hall but it just so happens it would be 6 feet shorter at the current updated estimate.
Hey guys,
This thread was tl;dr so I am not sure if someone has already said this...
But this project has an official start date and I have new renderings and plans
Pretty sure it would be illegal to share though...So, just know that its happening.

Awesome to get additional confirmation that it's a go
Can you tell us how similar it is to the previous iteration with regards to height/look without giving too much away? Previous intel said it was pretty similar.
Even if there's no hotel component (which makes no sense, even if downscale from SLS, given the market reports that folks have posted), I presume there will be a decent restaurant/retail component at a location like that.

Does this iteration look as good as the last one? Please say yes
Great to hear this is moving forward. Since this will not include the hotel portion any longer does anybody know how long Dranoff has to send back the money from the racp grants?

I think its doubtful that the State actually sent him any money, since that project never happened. But this is Carl, so I'm sure he'll do whatever he can to pocket that check. I can't say I fault him too much; if I was building anything why not ask the State to throw some taxpayer cash my way, if the answer is "yes" then it's easy money.
