i think winnipeg is underrated

aside from not having mountains i think majority of our city is more beautiful than majority of the cities out there..

and with these major developments downtown our city will actually start feeling like a major city

I admire your optimism and I agree with the sentiment. I think things will continue to improve and slowly we'll be able to lose this inferiority complex which characterizes the Winnipeg psyche. I just look forward to a day when downtown rids itself of the last of its pesky surface lots and we emerge out of the transportation stone age we are currently in.

i agree PARTS of our city are wonderful, our big city parks and The Forks area are great, but it's the routes i drive frequently, Sargent, notre dame and north main are just disgusting. many many dilapetated shops, otherwise they are not but garbage and vagrants hanging around. really 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 part of the city.

There are other big (just a term - maybe exciting) projects in the pipeline that will be announced shortly that are really good for Winnipeg. Stay tuned.

There's some pretty great restaurants and bars on all of those streets. Maybe take some time, pick up a piece of trash, and check them out and they can afford a paint job. Or ya can just keep complaining.

West End area Sargent must be one of the busiest pedestrian streets around - it feels like other cities' downtowns with the busy sidewalks and the skinny street. Wish they did more with it to prioritize pedestrians.

Sargent is full of life and is one of the most colourful streets the city has in many different ways. From the restaurants to the multi-cultures. Yeah, it's a little rough around the edges but it feels loved by the people who live there. Totally take a walk up there one Saturday afternoon and get the feel of it "on the ground" - no sense trying to judge an area driving by at 60kmh.

Agreed. Decay overshadows the good.

I don't think many of u relize that our little corner of the internet is a major source for information for local media they pay attention to here.
quite often ive seen stuff pop up in the paper/other media a day or 2 after we discussed something here going on from development to other stuff.... so be carefull plz ive seen some interesting projects pop up as teasers and die suddenly cause word got around and the developer got cold feet
I'm not sure I understand as it seems as though we would have to question the seriousness or capability of the developer if they get cold feet because of something discussed on this website. If they had a solid business plan it would seem they would proceed with a project based on that in itself.

Well, I assume that we could have had an effect on SkyCity's sales. On the other hand, was that a bad thing? I mean, if developers like that are getting cold feet because some people here did the research on them and informed people that they were a scam, didn't we do our civic duty?

That said, I don't know what goes into developing anything so I can't really say what issues could be faced. That's to say that it's totally fine with me if we keep our mouths shut until they make their own announcements.

Skycity also had it's fair share of cheerleaders on this board. Lots of pessimism, granted, but optimism nonetheless. If this forum is responsible for hurting sales to the point where the thing failed, then we've all got blood on our hands as we'd be responsible for lots of people losing serious money.

This forum is in no way responsible for propping up sketchy developments by censoring any critical discussion about them. Skycity was flawed from the start... This board had nothing to do with that.

If proposed projects that get discussed here are so sensitive that a leak on this forum could jeopardize said project, the developer is an amateur for not making our resident architects and engineers sign NDAs.

Well, the super-tall Nutty Club warehouse for one.
