And what exactly is wrong with that? The guy who owns the property is simply rewarding himself for a job well done. The people who don’t like it are only jealous that they can’t like be there.

He should have worked a little harder so he could hire a better architect.

Not everyone is jealous of wanting to be living there, remember that dude who was living in a mansion in Elbow Park and decided he’d rather live in a tiny condo in the beltline? And the other guy who is living in Shanghai, and could’ve lived in a larger apartment but wanted to live in the smaller one instead?

Why would you need to hire a better architect you haven’t even seen the house, it’s not even built yet case you hadn’t noticed.

Such an inane post that it doesn't deserve a response. It isn't the first time Bad Grizzly has acted as a petulant child instead of respectfully disagreeing with the opinions of the schlocky design choices. I'm referring to the completed Georgian inspired mansion with home depot vinyl windows and precast portico.

May as well shut down SSP if you can't comment on things you don't own and only creates jealousy.

Actually you're wrong. The portico was framed and then stuccoed. Not sure about the windows being vinyl, but you can't tell from the photo what kind of material they are. If you don't know the whole story don't assume. You know what they say about assuming.

Uh, it's right there in the photo. I have also seen it in person. It's riddled with architectural disproportion.

Who needs architectural proportion?! This is just an architecture forum after all...

I wouldn't quite call this a mansion. It is a rather traditional Calgary inner city design, however. An ode to Mount Royal (or something of the sort). Looking at it, I'm certain it will result in numerous "hater" posts from the renters on the forum

Even if the materials used on the grey brick one probably are cheap and covering a chipboard structure, the overall design of that is far more tasteful than most houses built in Calgary so I'm not going to criticize. It's restrained, simple and even symmetrical!

Hell, most houses here wouldn't even extend the brick around the corners - it might be brick on front, stucco on the side and vinyl siding round back.

Please don't stir the pot like this. I could afford to buy, but choose not to as it would be a poorer investment than renting, saving the money and putting it into the stockmarket as well as affording me more flexibility.

I detect a slight hint of sarcasm, but yeah that’s what always happens whenever someone posts anything that shows off someone’s wealth. The first thing people say is ‘I wouldn’t live there even if I had the money’ I mean c’mon you’re not fooling anyone.

If you want to assume everyone renting is an idiot/poor, go ahead. Although it is frustrating that people who would be financially better off if they didn't buy still keep piling into the housing market, needlessly inflating it.

I have the money and wouldn’t live there. Along with the money I also have taste. That property only has one thing going for it and that’s the view, which they didn’t even take advantage of. My downtown view from the bottom of the hill may not be as dramatic but I’m at the river in 20 seconds.

There’s also zero point sinking that much money into a wooden box that is bigger than anyone needs.

Renting would probably be better in the long run financially but we bought so we could have something committed and I could renovate the whole thing since it’s what I do so it’s a way to increase the property value with less input $ than end value.

So many of the homeless can be as well, to many of them your wooden box might be viewed as an extravagance as well.
