The loss of the theatres is sad, for sure. The amount of foot traffic generated by downtown Vancouver's Scotiabank/Cineplex theatre complex is considerable, and that kind of foot traffic is just what the restaurants in the Ice District area would have really benefited from.

That's a real shame. I'm wondering how much of Cineplex's decision is based on the present condition of their operation, external reticence toward investing in Alberta at this point in time, or "other". On the Alberta theme, certainly those willing to take a risk when things are less-than-optimal stand a good chance to really come out ahead. I guess Cineplex's got some housekeeping of its own to do before it can take a risk or two.

Theatre cut I can live with, but really disappointed the rooftop amenities is getting cut. 2 stories is a bummer too. Sigh.

Very sad to hear about the loss of the theatres especially... Heard a rumour that Landmark City Centre 09 is going to VIP-style seating like St. Albert. Anyone confirm that?

Maybe the theatre isn't dead yet?

"We have brought forward iterative design elements looking at what Ice District would look like with a cinema and without a cinema, and at the end of the day, the decision will be made on what we feel will create the most energy,"

and

"it’s not certain the tower will still include a movie theatre"

Yup. From the limited and fuzzy renders we have for Tower B, it looks like it was value-engineered by former Soviet bloc architects.

From the original rendering of a tall, sleek beautiful design highly complementing JW Marriott and Stantec to one that is now boxy retro '80's ... yeah, I'm not paying for construction of the building, but a bit embarrassing just the same!

Interesting Langham sees potential, but Brad Lamb doesnt.

Good on Langham.

I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet but the Langham towers will be called Falcon 1 and Falcon 2

Yuppers. First came Fox One and Fox Two, now comes Falcon One and Falcon Two. Personally I like it it's kitschy appeal... Design is clean, simple, classy. A couple of appropriately dressed towers that will be the two tallest south of Jasper if I'm not mistaken...
