170m for 64 floors seems rather low based on this standard in #2:

Referring to design, precedent set for what we will see moving forward?

The real question about understanding here is how anyone would put forward something surefire-built to raise the ire of pretty much anyone with at least a minimum understanding of what might have well been a stack of poop emojis on the corner of the site. (That's not a swipe at you, BTW.)
This is just a massing rendering. It doesn't provide ANY details as it pertains to the exterior materials, etc. Give this some time and more details will come.

It's the massing that's the entire problem. That cancer growth of a box on the corner has to go.

you do realize that that "cancer growth of a box" is just as likely to become non-built/non-enclosed volume or even enclosed but fully open and transparent volume?

do i know that's what will happen within that box? no.

which is the same answer as to whether you know what will happen within that box.

The surface articulation of the box has the same suggestion of near-wraparound balconies as is rendered for the towers.

and i'll give both of those components as much chance of being built as rendered as a snowball's chance in hell.

and i think i'll quite debating the architecture of something that has no real form or substance upon which to have an informed debate.

and in the interim i'll hope you're wrong in your expectations not because i hesitate to agree with you but because i really do hope you're wrong (because if you're right this really could be totally wrong).

I believe this is likely what we'll see.

It's a common design used in multi-tower projects.

The proposals are coming in so fast and furious these days I'm even struggling to keep a proper compiled list of those just 100m or higher.. Holy hell this city is on a tear! Keep it up! It's already looking vaguely foreign to me and I've lived here off and on since 1999...

Proposed rezoning in Downtown
June 20, 2018

Attend a meeting about a proposed rezoning in Downtown and an amendment to the Capital City Downtown Plan.

Date: Tuesday, June 26, 2018
Time: 6 - 8 p.m.
Location: First Presbyterian Church, Wallace Room, 10025 105 Street

This application is intended to allow development of two high rise towers with commercial uses at grade with underground parking. It will rezone parcels of land on the north side of 100 Avenue NW and between 103 and 104 Street NW, from (CMU) Commercial Mixed Use Zone to (DC2) Site Specific Development Control Provision.

The meeting provides an opportunity to learn more about the proposal and provide your feedback to the City and applicant. Input gathered will be summarized in a report to City Council before they make a decision on the rezoning.

Scaled back tower design for old Greyhound site at ICE District no longer includes cinemas or rooftop green space. This new image shows 4 storey podium scaled back to 2. #yeg #yegdt
