I have been re-thinking my suggestion of a few months ago, of running the UBC extension west from Alma using the Jericho Lands site to get to 4th Ave / Chancellor Blvd to get the line running north-south from the Chan Center to Thunderbird Stadium
A similar route would continue west from Broadway & Alma under Broadway which curves and becomes 8th Ave. Where 8th Ave runs beside the Jericho Lands, an underground station can be built to accommodate the new housing that will be developed there. Continuing westwards, the line runs under 8th Ave and becomes the disconnected piece of Chancellor Blvd. This segment conveniently lines up with the main route of Chancellor Blvd after it connects with 4th ave.
The line continues westwards under Chancellor Blvd to enter the campus from the North, lining up with either Wesbrook Mall, Main Mall, or East Mall. At this point, the line would run South to a terminal at the Thunderbird Sports Center, the stadium, or 16th ave.
I am guessing the UBC stations could be at or near the Chan Center, the SUB, the abandoned bus loops (which will likely be redeveloped), the Sports complex, or Wesbrook village housing (not all of the above)
With a station at the Jericho lands development, the new condo units being built there could be built with self-contained “student flats” as part of each unit to encourage the owners to rent them out to UBC (or even SFU) students, since these universities will be readily accessed by the nearby M-line subway.
