The space hasn't been leased since late last year. It's not the former CGI building, they are still there. A different tenant left the building.

The Co-operators used to have a few floors there, but consolidated at College a few years back... Direct West used to have a fair bit of staff in that building too. Were those the 2 you were thinking, or another?

The majority of the space vacated was the Co-operators.

That design shown by "One brick at a time" was by Number 10 Architectural group. Design I was talking about was done in house at Brandt and does not resemble this building in the least, footprint, look or style.

All I can say is I hope it goes ahead. Nicer than the new College Ave new buildings in my opinion.

Can you mention the general style or theme of the design you worked on? Was it primarily brick, glass, etc?

Now that the GTH is $37M in debt, the province wants to either offload it or get into a partnership with the city of Regina. I think this is a bad idea for the city.

It's an absolutely ridiculous idea - unless the province is planning to establish an ongoing funding commitment to compensate the City for the burden they're assuming (and hope that the City forgets the Province reneged on the Crown taxes-in-lieu after memories faded).

I guess if the prov were interested in winding-down the GTH as an entity, and transferring the land to the City (at no cost), that's an option worth exploring... but virtually anything else - why? There's already been enough offloading/downloading from the Prov to the City... why would the City volunteer to take on additional expensive provincial albatross like the GTH (much less pay the Province for the privilege of taking it on)? Why? It's a money-loser, it stands no chance of being anything more than an industrial park. Chasing major tenants is a shell game that we're bound to lose.

Glad to see the Mayor's initial comments weren't exactly enthusiastic, but I would've taken the opportunity to present the City's opening volley - the City will only contemplate taking a limited role, and only in a manner that guarantees a return. Basically, a fee-for-service (with a profit included) for assuming the management (not ownership) of the land on behalf of the Province.

I have a suggestion for Brandt, why not build your new building on the east side of the 1800 blk Broad St. This will help revitalize an area that is in desperate need of it! Also if they do build in the park, will there be ZERO surface parking?

There was talk of them building a new hockey arena they could easily build that along with a new office tower head quarters they have the money

They were never going to build a new hockey arena. The most they/the Pats owners would do is propose one and ask for money (or finagle some out of taxpayers through a few more shady provincial land transactions... allegedly), but that ship has sailed with the new Stadium. I doubt any money other than upgrades/maintenance will go toward large sporting facilities for the next decade.

The facilities do seem to be pretty well staggered though. The Brandt Centre will probably need a major overhaul or replacement in 15 years or so. Then 15-20 years after that, Mosaic will probably need a refurb (as long as it's been well-maintained during the preceding years).

Haha, right. The reason they won't do that is for the same reason that if you were going to build an expensive brand new house and you had the choice of building on a lot across from a beautiful park in the Crescents neighborhood, or a lot on a run down street in an undesirable area, which would you choose if it was your money?

The next one needs to be replacement of the Lawson. The work 4 years ago was really not enough for long term. There aren't enough pool facilities in the city (ask anyone who has tried to register kids for swimming on the opening day of registration) and the user groups competing for time at the Lawson are getting squeezed.

Maybe an indoor water park/pool type place that any city in Canada that's a city should have?

I’ve always thought we needed a new main large swimming/waterslide city facility. Lots of Glass (surprise) and something central.

Something like Toronto’s Regent Park new facility...

I may be dating myself and perhaps my memory is foggy, but wasn't this initially a City of Regina project called the Regina Intermodal facility or something similar to move the CP yards and STC bus depot out our downtown? And then the business wizards of the prov'l gov't came along with stars and $$$ in their eyes, took control and rebranded it the GTH? And now they want to dump this white elephant back on the city? Fougere should tell them to take a hike
