Thanks.
Personally, I like the variation in height it creates
- seems like they'd rather have a tabletop.

From Vancouver Heritage twitter March 3rd and today -
Demolition of Oakridge United Church on West 41st Ave for the Townline project below (including new church space).

The tower was just wood covered in stucco.
You'd think they would have removed the stained glass windows for architectural salvage.
If you look at the pics at the Tyee.ca website, it looks like they demolished the pipe organ, too, instead of salvaging it.

Quote:
But what about the materials? The loudest outrage seems to be about reclamation
— as in, what effort was made to preserve items from within the church: pews, windows, plaques,
wooden beams, art and the like?

As it turns out, congregation members were given dibs on those items. Others were sold.
The stained glass piece behind the altar will be retained in the new site, as will other stained glass works.
Pews, pulpits and overhead lights were sold to people in the TV and film business.

What is seen in the photos from the weekend, says the developer, were the remnants of the building
that no one wanted.

Parking Rental Homes at Granville and 10th

Quote:
We are happy to share another pre-application open house notice that was passed along to us. Currently this site sits wasted as a surface parking lot just south of the Vancouver School Board. At less than a three minute walk from the future Broadway and Granville Skytrain Station, Darren and I are sure that the location is perfect for 63 rental homes.

TMH Info Session Fails to Draw Crowds in False Creek – Setback to allow for bike lane

Module Housing Info Session Fails to Draw Crowds in False Creek – Project Setback to Allow for Future Bike Lane
599 West 2nd Avenue – Temporary Modular Housing

In a sign of community disinterest, satiated curiosity, or even support, the second open house for the modular home site near the Olympic Village Station drew only a small crowd. While the first open house held on January 30th saw attendance in the mid 300’s, this event failed to reach 50 total attendees by 6 pm. Perhaps they agreed with the city’s idea that being close to a mass transit hub, the Vancouver Police Station, and the VGH campus makes this a suitable location. As False Creek South is a proud community, it could be that residents felt that this proposal helped achieve the income diversity that the neighbourhood was founded on (an equal mix of low, middle and upper incomes). Another option is that the City staff addressed people’s concerns, or those same people feel that the end result is inevitable.

That's weird the way it's dropped in the middle of the parking lot.

I know this is temporary but still. Seems like a waste. City should work with a developer and build something like glilmore station on this site!

That is the problem with most of these modular thingies. It's a temporary fix, which could be much worse when these buildings start aging quickly.

They need to make long term solutions. All this does is buy time until long term solutions can be put in place. It's a bit worrying that they're not really announcing long term housing projects, just modular ones.

Oak Street Triplets Showcase Beauty, Sustainability & Livability in Lowrise Form

Quote:
988 West 64th + 8030 - 8310 Oak Street
Every day, hundreds of cars travel past these hedged-walled lots on their hour-plus commutes home. This project may change that, as it proposes to tear down that wall, and replace it with three livable buildings. These building relate well to one another by providing homes that are staggered and offset to create more privacy between neighbours. Though there's plenty of spaces for neighbours to mingle, as not only does each building have it's own amenity space, but there are good sized courtyards that connect the buildings as well. These

Thanks.

The cubby-hole balconies on the internal sides of each block are a bit odd.
Usually you'd expect some articulation to create angled views
- but here, the cubby-hole effect focuses views directly into the suites of the adjacent building.

Housing crisis done with one site? lol Heck Vision keeps bragging about all the rental homes that have come online lately, those have done wonders for the housing crisis... You can not build your way out of our problem, demand is the issue.
What I get a kick out of is how Vancouver of 50yrs ago was a fraction of the size it is now but could afford to have all this golf courses and more outdoor pools, a pne that was open longer, parks with the grass actually cut. And here we are today with a larger tax base and unable to keep it up. Perhaps the city should stick to managing it's core responsibilities and leave housing to the province and feds.
